Someone clever should assemble an online writers’ week starring all the people too principled to attend the Adelaide one. Donations to go directly to the artists.

One day soon the story will be told of how hands on Burke has been purging national arts bodies of people targeted by pro-Israel lobby groups. He isn’t just cowardly and silent, he’s been active in crushing marginalised voices.
Where’s Tony Burke?

It’s times like these you realise that arts ministers have no interest in defending the arts, and that govts are willing to burn millions of $ for political reasons.

Adelaide’s board has just squandered millions of $ and months of work and countless opportunities for writers…

Everything the media goes all out on about Albo reminds me how the same media gave Scott Morrison a free pass no matter what he did and as disappointing as Albo may be, the media itself is far more disappointing and I wish to
fuck they would stop being so disappointing and start doing their jobs.

This is an excellent question. Not so long ago I would’ve expected Tony Burke - or any arts minister in an Albanese government - to defend vigorously artistic freedom in general and the artistic freedom of minorities in particular. Gutting to have been proved so wrong, so often.

After Bondi, calls for a Royal Commission appeared overnight, delivered by rotating groups using identical language. That is astroturfing, a PR tactic that simulates grassroots demand to manufacture urgency, crowd out scrutiny, and lock in policy before evidence is tested. More on YT

If Josh Frydenberg wants to talk about bad appointments for Royal Commissioner, he should start with his party’s appointment of Dyson Heydon, who was later found to have sexually harassed multiple women.

I don’t recall Josh raising any objections?

If we ever do have a royal commission into Bondi, its terms of reference should include an examination of the media’s highly political handling of the tragedy. That’s where we might also learn who really dials up hate and racism in this country.

Nick has written an excellent article on the shameful aftermath of the shattering Bondi attacks. I recommend you read it (and subscribe to his Substack).
I’m still amazed that the sub judice aspect has been ignored in the rolling media campaign for a Bondi royal commission.
In case you’ve not read about it (and why would you) I’ve written about it here:

I'm not staunchly for or against a Royal Commission into anti-semitism. But what I DO strongly believe is that many of the loudest agitators for it (looking at you yet again MPs & media) are clearly doing so primarily for political mileage and/or easy 'content'. Pretty sickening.
