back in the ancient times of 2012, tony's obviously fake movie-smart-guy thing--the fast-talking science gibberish, 'reverse the polarity' etc--was forgivable because that's just how "supergenius characters" are written as a rule. it's silly but its whatever.

I'm only a recent Del Taco convert. Sadly do not have them in my part of CA, so have to seize the opportunity for linguistic confusion and decent fast food while on road trips. We used to have one near by, but I was a fool and never hit it up. Maybe that's why they closed? It's all my fault.

And I should note I actually do believe there are positive use cases for the amorphous suite of tools we inelegantly lump into “AI,” and that there are ways we can balance them out against an economy that is good for the collective whole - but making that case is very specifically not *my* job

imagine how incredibly insufferable I’d be if I spent all my time sighing heavily about how stupid and ignorant the public is just because they’re afraid of drones and how they can be misused

this is exactly what some AI boosters sound like to me

Yes, there are nice people working on AI technologies who have nothing to do with the high level execs or companies who constantly terrorize the public, but again, while I am a bit more sympathetic to those people, it’s still your collective industry’s PR issue to fix

I indeed would have more sympathy for the AI industry writ large around public perception if there hadn’t been years now of genuinely constant attempts at the highest level to make everyone who isn’t an upper-level manager terrified that AI will destroy their livelihoods
