Do forest recovery + higher soil organic C elevate production of dissolved inorganic C? No, because cooling soils + lower moisture reduce soil respiration.

On the other hand, drier climate does diminish carbonate weathering + reduce DIC export

As Qinghai Lake climbs the shore, newly drowned edges remobilize phosphorus. Particles and chlorophyll rise, pH and redox shift, microbes reorganize into denser networks. These zones become engines of internal loading, amplifying eutrophication risk in alpine waters. 🌐🧪
Phosphorus release and microbial community alterations in submerged areas of Qinghai Lake
The formation of submerged areas in Qinghai Lake, driven by rising water levels, has resulted in substantial changes in environmental characteristics,…

OLIGOTREND was featured in the last @irbio-ub.bsky.social post, with a great summary of what this database consists of, and what it already tells us about #oligotrophication in aquatic ecosystems:

While the database is not exhaustive, its flexible structure and reproducible processing pipeline facilitate the inclusion of additional datasets in the future. Please get in touch with us if you feel you can help us fill the void.

Are you, like me, wondering about the effects of this compound event on downstream water quality?

In less than a week, the #ElsPorts mountain range near Tortosa, on the west side of the large river Ebre (Catalonia), has endured two extreme events: a 3,300 ha #wildfire, followed by #torrential rainfall (100 mm/day) in the #riucanaletes watershed... All of this is visible from space.

Although we typically consider photosynthetic allochthonous and autochthonous carbon in stream food webs, chemoautotrophic sources (ammonia or sulfur oxidation) can contribute substantially, and incorporate ancient C. Recently accepted to FWS, online at www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/10.1086/...

The publisher of my recently accepted paper announces a minimum of 10 weeks to produce the proofs from the final revised version I had sent.
With the current rules of the game (unfortunately), every publication and citation matters to secure a permanent position, it is hard to wait and stay quiet.
