at some point we're gonna have to have a real conversation about why we're still paying federal taxes to a regime that isn't using them to help anyone, but instead is using them to brutalize us

I remember going back and forth last year about going to Target on Black Friday for a vinyl that everyone was so sure would be available online and with other retailers. My Toys R Us trauma is real but my fear of never having the second half of Tortured Poets Department was greater.

With SNAP expiring, at least one Calif community is responding not by helping people get food, but by threatening hungry people with arrest

This is what we mean when we say policing is a policy choice that creates crime

Here’s the math that proves it 🧵
California police boost patrols at grocery stores as millions set to lose SNAP benefits
Over 5.5 million Californians, including 2 million children, are set to lose their SNAP benefits this Saturday.

We’re going to do the wrong thing instead of making it more affordable and accessible to have children, aren’t we?

Fertility treatments still aren’t covered by a lot of insurance companies. Insurance doesn’t define “treatment” as just the big ones like IVF. It includes office visits, testing…
RFK Jr: "When my uncle was president, the fertility rate in this country was 3.5%. Today it is 1.6%. The replacement rate -- in other words the amount of fertility you need to keep your population even -- is 2.1%. We are below replacement. That is a national security threat to our country."

I should also say—this is something MAGAs have been saying for years. My MAGA former grandfather (incredibly, someone who would hop hospitals to get pain killers) was saying this years ago.
Vance: "If you're an American citizen & you've been to the hospital in the last few years, you've probably noticed wait times are especially large & very often somebody who's there in the ER is an illegal alien. Why do those people get healthcare benefits at hospitals paid for by American citizens?"

Every time I’ve had a long wait time (as someone who has had 15+ ER visits in the last ten years), it was because beds were full due to preventable diseases but we’ve been dissuading people to get their Covid and flu shots, so I anticipate that will get worse.

I hope it's clear to everyone now that Trump really is going for it - he's trying to become a dictator. I don't know if he'll succeed, but he's working to install himself as an autocrat unaccountable to voters. And he's weaponizing the military against Americans who oppose him as part of that effort

The near daily barrage of deadly mass shootings in America feels like low level warfare against normal citizens who just want to live in peace. And because people keep electing Republicans who won’t do anything about it there’s no solution in sight.

It is not our job to determine if resistance is hopeless. It is our duty to render it effective, at all possible points, while we are alive. It is the future that will determine if our efforts were victorious, not the present. To act fully in the present means to never face defeat.

This cannot be emphasized enough.
Also, shame on any democrat politician who thought for one moment this was a radicalized progressive. We don’t radicalize toward weaponry and murder. We generally radicalize toward justice, protest, mutual aid, and community action.

I like how he has to say “over 90 years old” because the president is too old to use any other decade (who also needs to go home and take a nap and stop destroying our country).
Stephen Miller: "All these demonstrators that you've seen out here in recent days, all these elderly white hippies, they're not part of the city and never have been ... we're gonna ignore these stupid white hippies that all need to go home and take a nap because they're all over 90 years old."

I’m really gonna ask you please not to turn your nose up at the WSJ story and sneer that it’s a distraction.

These men harmed real people. They used their power and money to trap and abuse them.

That’s not a distraction, actually. That’s central to what matters.
