Wow, y’all are serious about this pie stuff

(Pizza, the best pie is pizza, duh)

Also, they have proven to be very eager to use their platforms to say things that befuddle and alienate the median voter. In that sense, the don’t-platform thing always has rubbed me the wrong way
I do think some people are kind of fighting the last war when it comes to 'not platforming', like guys these people hold elected office, the horse is very well out of the barn, it's not 2015 anymore.

Very eager to see Dershowitz’s upcoming segment on traditional Thanksgiving side dishes and how he will immediately call the police if you don’t feel like sharing
Elevate who now?

When I think "where the vast majority of Americans actually are," I think about the millionaire lawyer for Jeffrey Epstein & Harvey Weinstein & Donald Trump who was recently in the news for threatening to sue a pierogi seller in Martha's Vineyard, where he has one of his homes.
"elevate charismatic figures such as Alan Dershowitz"

Every Democrat in Congress should put out a video saying troops have an obligation to refuse unlawful orders. Make them prosecute all of you. This isn't a close call.

I'd add Republicans too if I thought any of them had the courage to actually cross Trump on this.
Hegseth is now threatening to recall Sen. Mark Kelly to active duty in order to court martial him.

I talked to Aftyn Behn, who's making a race of a U.S. House seat in and around Nashville that Trump won by 22 points.
Her big proposed bill in the state legislature would have ended grocery taxes in Tennessee and paid for it by stopping corporate tax avoidance. Perfect for the political moment.
Aftyn Behn: Running for Congress in deep red Tennessee
Aftyn Behn is trying to flip a seat Donald Trump won by 22 points in a December special election. Grocery bills and corporate taxes dominate.

Not entirely wrong, although desperately needs the qualifier “hunger of voters on the right & left who want something different [but lack a clear sense of what change they want, why, or how]”
Matt Stoller: “..Trump & Mamdani defeated establishment in their own way, representing hunger of voters on the right & left who want something different. If those sides cd come together.. that would be a sea change in how we organize our political economy”.

Monopoly Round-Up: Why the Establishment Freaked Out Over a Mamdani-Trump Press Conference
Meta wins its antitrust case, there are now two fire truck antitrust claims, the stock market got wobbly, and Larry Summers was exiled from the establishment, at least for now.

If you’re a journalist who’s still on Twitter, from now on in your writing you have to replace “the American people want” with “troll bots in Eastern Europe demand”

Being there makes your judgment suspect. I don’t care how savvy you think you are, you’re marinating in a disinformation campaign.

Fascinating and astute thread, as always
A friend who teaches theology shared with me a post about CS Lewis's Mere Christianity, which discusses foundational Christian logic across denominations. It reminded me of Dale's tweet below, and I wanted to share some thoughts here regarding modesty and respectability, which are often hot topics.

The bank foreclosed on my landlady once, and she turned off the water. The water company wouldn’t let me or my neighbors open an account of our own because we were now squatting. So I went to the local legal aid office for help and said this seems pretty cool
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?

I went to high school with Aftyn. She’s a good egg. Tennessee would be lucky to have her in Congress!
VOTE EARLY, VOTE AFTYN

Today is the last Saturday to vote early in the TN-7 special congressional race in Tennessee. Not sure where or when to vote? Not in the district, but want to canvass to get out the vote? Check out the links in our BIO!

Mamdani: I've spoken about --

Trump: Just say yes, it's easier than explaining.

“Subculture shit” is a keeper. 90% of these “leftists” just need a hobby besides posting. One of my friends is seeing someone who used to be like that. Then she started coming to weekly trivia with us. Fixed ‘er right up
it's just subculture shit. a lot of these people would be happier focusing this energy into niche music genres.
The replies to this have convinced me that when right wingers say "Leftists actually hate their society and their culture and they are trying to get us all killed as punishment for it" they're actually unironically right about a decent chunk of the online left.

Yes, just as Christ taught us. Preaching violence is totally cool, as long as someone else pulls the trigger for you

Vance is a legitimate contender for worst Christian of the 21st century
JD Vance on the same morning Trump calls for execution of elected Democrats: "He's not a violent person:"

The modern Republican party really is just a generation of too-online Overpopulation Edgelords who grew up, decided they want kids, realized they need government assistance getting laid, and so made room in their worldview for pro-natalism by pivoting from “too many people” to “too many immigrants”
Bovino was blaming traffic on them this morning.
this defies parody. also helps explain why Sec Bessent bizarrely blamed immigrants when confronted with a question about high beef prices

They can put a robot that talks like a man on the moon, but somehow they still haven’t figured out a speech-to-text function that doesn’t insert random commas between adjectives and the nouns they modify. Ridiculous.

Makes sense in the abstract, I guess. The people should not have to suffer a dangerous criminal on the loose because a procedural error caused the statute of limitations to run

On the other hand, it only makes sense when we’re talking about dangerous, criminals, and actual crimes
/2 There’s a statute that revives and extends the statute of limitations if an indictment is dismissed.
