TFW you paid $1400 to see Beckett’s most famous work without knowing anything about it
One Star Review of Waiting for Godot on Broadway
I recently attended Waiting for Godot on Broadway and spent over $1,400 for two Row C seats (103 and 104). I'm a longtime admirer of Broadway productions and even hold a season pass for Shea's Performing Arts Theatre, so I came in with genuine enthusiasm and high expectations. Unfortunately, this show was unlike anything ! have ever experienced —and not in a good way.
What I encountered was not the artistry, music, or emotional storytelling I usually associate with Broadway, but instead what felt like an endless cycle of nonsensical conversation between characters who seemed trapped in their own madness. I tried-truly tried-to find meaning, symbolism, or even a thread of emotional resonance. I stayed through the first half hoping the second would offer clarity. But by intermission, it was clear: this was a waste of both time and money.
Keanu Reeves is an actor I respect greatly, but I cannot fathom why he would agree to participate in such a disjointed, inaccessible production. His talent was lost in a performance that defied reason rather than provoked insight.
To anyone considering attending: unless you are drawn to highly abstract, nearly incomprehensible theater, I strongly caution you against this show. For the average, educated, thoughtful theatergoer, it is far more frustrating than fulfilling. In my opinion, this was the single most disappointing Broadway experience I've ever had - an unfortunate waste of money and, more importantly, of time.

People ask what they can do in this moment: here's a crucially important election. There are 52,000 elections taking place next month, many of which will be determined by turnout.

OK. It's going to be coming out soon because of the relentless investigations of Pam Bondi and Kash Patel, so I might as well admit it before the news breaks:

I am the General Counsel of Antifa.

when UNC scored on the first possession of the first game and Colin Cowherd immediately posted this, and then UNC lost by 34
Wasn’t really sure what to expect from Chapel Bill. But after that drive, I have him as second best college coach I’ve ever seen, just below Saban.

I was just in McGaheysville, Virginia + said it how I thought it was pronounced to a friend who lives nearby + she clearly didn't know what I meant. Then the GPS revealed 'Mc-GACKeysville' and of course why wouldn't it be .

(The more obvious thing in that area is 'Staunton' pronounced 'STANT-un')

What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

Great melody and some of his best lyrics.

(Not complaining about the piece, which basically takes this stance, but the idea of fandom trying to 'solve' it. I personally thought 'near future' but mostly I thought 'pretend).
carriempruett.bsky.social
in pretend times. it's pretend. why do people have so much trouble with 'pretend'?

I might be the world's #1 'Leah' appreciator but this is one of the best songs I know about solid, lowkey happiness youtu.be/QswDWgmb1L4?...

The musical choices on 'Worlds Apart' in the context he was writing in *shivers*
carriempruett.bsky.social
I completely get that and yeah, everybody thinks of him as the Vietnam generation & in connection with 9/11 but he keeps going back to those Middle East wars so much of culture ignored (just relistened to Devils & Dust, and Devil's Arcade off MAGIC is a song of my heart)
carriempruett.bsky.social
I'm not wild about those albums as a whole, but I do love the MTV Plugged from that era + I really think 'Better Days' holds up with anything he's ever written (esp lyrics).
carriempruett.bsky.social
Also every time I think about him calling Patti 'Rosie' in this song, as in 'Rosalita' I have to go lie down.

(Sorry for Bruce-posting while the sun is up, this is ususlly an after midnight kinda thing)

'Better Days' is the platonic ideal of That Song to me,really. (The production, I know, but the production is kind of inseparable from the emotion, just like you can't take the synths out of 'Tunnel of Love')

Like, the man knows how to write THAT SONG he just doesn't do it that often.
carriempruett.bsky.social
So Springsteen never made a great 'fallen in love album' (the New Band stuff is notoriously the opposite) but I do think some of his most underrated songs are 'happy now' ones ('Better Days' in particular, but also all the upbeat ones on 'Devils & Dust')
jmritchey.bsky.social
It's a given in the music industry that "I've fallen in love!" albums are usually regrettable, and "I've gotten a divorce!" ones often have some of the artist's best work. So question for the group, what are the best "I've fallen in love!" albums?
carriempruett.bsky.social
I know Bruce tended to work and rework songs for a long time, so I can very much imagine him cutting 'Tunnel' like 'this is a story album, these are characters' (which has always been his thing anyway) + accidentally releasing the most divorced record of all time.
carriempruett.bsky.social
Is this a timing thing re: Tunnel? Because I've always read it as an explicit divorce album. Did he write the songs before everything went south?

I hope somebody captured Meddy yelling at the umpire about how everyone was unfair to him when he played RAFA, an extremely retired man he hasn't faced since 2022.
