Public Librarian turned School Librarian. Completely aghast at current events. Escaping often into poetry and crunchy snacks. 🌈 Ally forever & always.

Trying to psyche myself up to get my blood drawn when I hate, hate, HATE getting blood drawn. It’s a super frequent necessity for ulcerative colitis 😭

Time for the annual reminder that a “beach read” is any book you feel like reading on the beach. Could be chick lit, could be the Penguin Guide to the Viking Age. #youdoyou #readanything

Do you still follow someone because you’re angry at them and want to track the things they do?

I invite you to start your summer by unfollowing them so you don’t devote energy to something that makes you sad

It's 2015. President Barack Obama has accepted a "sky palace" jumbo jet from the Qatari government, which he'll own after he leaves office. "Everybody relax," he says in an interview with the New York Times. Everyone does. The networks then televise the military parade in his honor on his birthday.

Can it be ok to live in a world with little free libraries AND real libraries? Please leave LFLs alone. This is horizontal violence. Send the hate where it belongs (the White House).

In a press conference, WH stated that Carla Hayden was fired b/c she was putting "inappropriate books in the children's section."

The children's section.

Damn. This might be a perfect piece.
I lost track of all the stinging lines in this essay by Jia Tolentino: “My own children, dragged to the marches by their parents, turned their faces to the sky to count and be counted by the N.Y.P.D.’s drones overhead.”

Autism has been around for...a very long time, but this leather-faced, former heroin addict with no medical background and an allergy to appropriate scientific research is going to figure it all out by Labor Day? That seems plausible. We live in the stupidest times and I hate it.
