Japan’s winter COVID-19, influenza cases rise.

Week ending Dec 8:

🔹New influenza cases: 44,673 (+20,000)
🔹New COVID cases: 15,163 (+3,200)

In the 12 months after Japan eased COVID measures in May 2023, over 32,000 COVID deaths and 2,244 influenza deaths were reported.

Cases of pertussis, commonly known as whooping cough, have jumped 14-fold since 2023, alarming state health officials.

As of Dec. 8, there were 1,578 confirmed cases of pertussis in Michigan, compared to 110 for the full year of 2023.
