Because @labeler.hailey.at is fairly low stakes and is merely a community tool (not something we run in production), I've gone ahead and made the ruleset that drives it public. Hopefully serves as a good reference for writing Osprey rules.

The Board is united by a belief that keeping the internet safe requires open, transparent, & community-governed infrastructure. With their guidance, ROOST will continue building shared, open safety tools that support developers, researchers, platforms, & civil society working in the public interest.

When the core primitives of trust and safety infrastructure are open source, everyone gets to experiment, tweak, and make it work for them, like @hailey.at just did.

Hi friends! It's the last Installer of the year, and I want to know: what's your favorite new thing of the year? (Or at least A favorite.) Doesn't even have to be new to everyone, just new to you — what'd you read / watch / listen to / buy / cover in chocolate this year that you absolutely loved?

One amazing thing about 2025 is that, if you start up an Apple product, it forces you to choose between _three different_ window mangers, but if you start up a clean install of a current version of Linux, it just chooses good defaults for you.

We got good feedback on the job description, which Diffie* has incorporated. TL;DR: If you've architected data-intensive systems and are familiar with an infrastructure-level language like Python, Go, or Rust we want to hear from you! roost.tools/staff-softwa...

Bluesky peeps who come across Mastodon/fediverse accounts that are bridged (i.e. using Bridgy Fed), how do you feel about them and their posts? I have my thoughts/opinions, but am curious what the general vibes are.

Please reshare widely, I’m trying to get input from more than just my followers. 🙏

We are also very excited that @hailey.at is part of our Technical Design Committee! The initial TDC was selected by ROOSTers, but we aim to hold elections in the future. Along with community feedback and ROOST staff priorities, the TDC will help advise on our projects and priorities.
We have just published our initial roadmap and announced our inaugural Technical Design Committee. We want to hear from all of you if we're focusing on the right things and what you think of our roadmap!

One thing that stuck out to me was how often I heard "It's so nice to know I'm not alone in this."

Working in online safety can feel isolating, and there aren't enough spaces where builders can come together and reach for the limits of what's possible, together. This is what OSS is all about!
On Monday, @hf.co , OpenAI, and ROOST hosted the first Open Safeguard Hackathon. The room was filled with people who care deeply about safety, working together to explore and test gpt-oss-safeguard. Check out the ROOST Model Community for some of the projects github.com/roostorg/mod...
