It's #InternationalTrailsDay.
All Manitoba trails are closed due to fire risk, but I thought I'd share some favourites for when we can explore again.

Curious onlooker. Juvenile Canada jays (wiskejak) always want to learn about everything. They're very bold and this little guy flew over to see what I was all about. 🌿🪶

I used to sit and watch beavers at this pond for hours a few years ago. Then the family moved out after they ate most of the birch and willow. However, there was at least one beaver there tonight. He wasn’t as happy to see me as I was him. 🌿🦊🦫

The biggest endorsement I can make for Bluesky is that replacing Twitter with this app on my phone probably improved my general mood when I’m on my phone by 20-25%. I know there are better reasons but it is what it is!

The long read: When fossilised remains were discovered in the Djurab desert in 2001, they were hailed as radically rewriting the history of our species. But not everyone was convinced – and the bitter...

Recent dating of fossils at Jebel Irhoud in Morocco suggests our species began all over Africa much earlier than thought, at least 300 Kya.

Aber was die Vertreter*innen von CDU/CSU derzeit an Wendemanövern abliefern ist, höflich ausgedrückt, als würden Duracell-Häschen auf Drehkreiseln sitzend um die Wette bömmeln.

Bringing South West Railway into public ownership is a good move for rail travel in England, but more is needed:
- NO backdoor "ongoing role" for private sector
- Bring rolling stock into public hands
- investment!
If you agree sign our petition:
Petition: Take our trains into public ownership | We Own It
The government is taking railway operators into public ownership, but the trains themselves will remain in private hands. The government must take our trains into public ownership.
