All Manitoba trails are closed due to fire risk, but I thought I'd share some favourites for when we can explore again.
1. One of the many short trails around Grindstone

4. Hogs Back - Spruce Woods PP

I used to sit and watch beavers at this pond for hours a few years ago. Then the family moved out after they ate most of the birch and willow. However, there was at least one beaver there tonight. He wasn’t as happy to see me as I was him. 🌿🦊🦫

The biggest endorsement I can make for Bluesky is that replacing Twitter with this app on my phone probably improved my general mood when I’m on my phone by 20-25%. I know there are better reasons but it is what it is!

A single perfect six-bracted specimen, partially occluded by one leaf. In the BG, blurry leaves, another flower, some sky. A single six-bracted specimen, but this one showing more background, including more flowers and leaves of the same plant. Deeper BG, blurry forest. Close up on the central flowers, showing the actual petals and the stamens & pistils. Lurking in the center of this inflorescence was a flower crab spider, maybe Misumena vatia. It caught this bee and was completely unperturbed at my proximity. Similar photo but this time focussed on the spider.
