I'm gonna say the quiet part aloud. Sadly there are many in scientific, academic & healthcare ranks as well as in the leadership of professional societies who support the purge of DEI.
The failure to peak out forcefully and rush to comply by some is unsurprising.

It's disappointing to see societies like @asm.org rush to be among the first to withdraw their support of scientists from traditionally excluded groups.

This is a time when all of science must step up in defense of facts - including that race/gender/orientation/etc. have no bearing on capability

Senator Andy Kim just went to the USAID building, talked to the security guard there to confirm employees are being barred entry, and then did a press gaggle right there in front to call it out.

This is doing something. This is making an effort on messaging. Other Democratic lawmakers: take notes.

The societies, academies, and other leaders have been MIA for years, leaving it to individual scientists to pick up the slack.

Maybe time to step up?
