Compared to Dylan and Springsteen, country-music legend Johnny Cash can seem deeply uncool. It took time for me to appreciate his profound, plainspoken strength, writes Jon Fasman.

Apparently our newest Nobel Peace Prize winner wrote to fucking Netanyahu for help in overthrowing the government of her own country dawg
The population of Venezuela needs international protection against the widespread and systematic attack to which the Venezuelan regime subjects it. This is demonstrated by the report dated May 29, 2018, submitted by the Organisation of American States to the International Criminal Court. This has served as the basis for nine states, including Argentina, to file complaints against the regime before that international body. We deeply appreciate this effort, which is decisive for the outcome of the Venezuelan tragedy.

I am convinced that the international community, in accordance with the responsibility to protect doctrine, is called upon to provide Venezuelans with the necessary support to bring about the regime change that is urgently needed to restore national and international security. Therefore, I have recently sent letters to several of the world’s leading figures to promote before the United Nations Security Council the adoption of effective protection measures for Venezuela by fostering regime change, a step that necessarily entails strengthening international security. Today I want to ask Israel and Argentina to contribute their expertise and influence to advance a sound and urgent decision-making process in the Security Council.

Such measures are imperative in the face of a hemispheric security hotspot like the one currently posed by the regime oppressing Venezuela. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Organisation for Migration have certified that the current refugee crisis of people fleeing Venezuela is the largest in the history of the Americas. Argentina is an example of this crisis, having welcomed hundreds of thousands of our compatriots—a gesture for which Venezuelans will always be grateful. However, we must be aware that without a change of regime in our country, hemispheric and global security will be at risk.

A few pictures from last night's @warringtonruncorn.com gig at the Portland in Cambridge.
A contrasty black-and-white image Gordon Chapman-Fox standing behind a chest-high table full of electronics, concentrating hard. There is a dark void around him, four small pentagonal lights above. A colour image similar to the previous one, but from a wide angle, with a second, lower table full of electronics visible. Gordon is looking down and tweaking things with both hands. Some heads from the crowd are visible in the foreground, in shadow, haloed by the lights in the venue. A colour image, similar to the previous one but from a tighter angle. Gordon looks very serious. A black-and-white image with the venue's logo visible behind Gordon Chapman-Fox, who looks like he is being transported by the music.

In the first 100 days I will dig down into the place of honor. On day one I will issue an Executive Order that the radical woke warning signs be removed and anyone perpetuating the "dangerous and repulsive" lie to be terminated. I will restore the country by touching the ancient treasures.

We rendered colour and bump maps for the walk cycle at 45-degree intervals - GPUs were just about good enough that we could do directional lighting with good performance. It worked pretty well, we got a lot onscreen for the time! Shame the final game itself wasn’t all that great.

I built the system that did this for the Starship Troopers FPS back in the early 00s. Getting hundreds of poly bugs onscreen wasn’t easy with the hardware back then, but I’d already built the (sprite-based) particle engine so just re-purposed that for anything over a given distance from the camera.

Yeah, these are just slabs. I’ve tried pulling a few times and it’s so discouraging, I think I just need to spend (more than) a few hours practising. But I’m terrible at handbuilding generally and it just feels like an impassable mountain to climb.

At 2:30am I woke up thinking I must write a cartoon called "Art Garfunkel's Fart Carbuncle" and submit it to Viz and of course I'm never going to. But yeah, Art has built this carbuncle and filled it with farts, and is trying to lure Paul Simon as punishment for erasing him from the 83 reunion LP.

In the Arun Valley, @naturalengland.bsky.social , the Environment Agency & Southern Water worked to find a potential solution that improves water quality & protects wildlife while enabling development.

That’s how good planning works: with nature, not against it. 👇

Comments like this pit nature against growth – it’s the wrong target.

Here, the system has worked: protecting one of UK’s rarest species while allowing 20,000 homes to proceed.

Same story - 2 very different takes.

Reeves claims she unblocked a development being held up by a "microscopic snail or something", while Natural England claim they and the EA negotiated an agreement with Southern Water, to reduce water abstraction from the snail's habitat.
