Every creative person, across the world, is making these choices right now. We have to fight on so many fronts.

Avoid despair.
I'm going to make beautiful things to combat the ugly things.

There are days I fight.

Today, I create during a destructive time.

Getting by looks different every day right now.

Im in a recliner with a warm cat purring on my lap. I have never wanted to make myself go work less. If my coffee cup wasn't empty, I might just stay here all day.

Normalize saying "im just really sad and tired of this whole world" when people ask how you are.

You know those albums that (definitely weren't but) feel like they were written for *you?* those albums you wishbyou could force others to listen to? I don't think I will ever get over Little Beast by @lucywainwright.bsky.social - it destroys me in the most wonderful way every time I listen to it.

Every once in awhile, those personal rejections sting harder than the forms.

every author in the class action, please file the claim.
AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.
Authors celebrate “historic” settlement coming soon in Anthropic class action
Advocates fear such settlements will “financially ruin” the AI industry.

The cure's most recent album is really good. For a band I've been up and down on from time to time, I find myself revisiting them a lot lately because of it...

When I was younger, I was always most jealous of brevity. Of those who could say so much with little. One of my favorite songs was "little conversations" by concrete blonde. I suppose I still am. I always say it's the last pathetic text I'll send. But it never is.

Justice Sotomayor's dissent in Skrmetti (which she's now reading from the bench) is deeply pained, accusing her colleagues of abandoning "transgender children and their families to political whims" and badly damaging "bedrock" principles of equal protection. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...

sure, the world is going up in flames, there's unrest in the streets, and America has become a global punchline, but at least Trump voters made the handful of trans athletes in the country feel extra bad

I still *want* to write. It has just been a really long time and I feel lost somewhere below the surface of being able to descibe much of anything.

It is interesting how few people I met at the old place are still people that I communicate with. I don't know if that says more about them (sometimes) or me (probably a lot of the time) but it is interesting since I found what felt like community there.

I'm not very good at breaking laws (heck, I even drive the speed limit) but i think i want to start a national littering as civil disobedience movement. I mean, if they're wanting to turn the country into a garbage dump... I mean this in jest, of course, but it has sort of an allure to it.
