Because it feels relevant as we continue to evaluate the media and our representatives’ statements, my favorite way to identify the active vs. passive voice.
A post by Rebecca Johnson:
“I finally learned how to teach my guys to ID the passive voice. If you can insert "by zombies" after the verb, you have passive voice.”

A tumblr respond from mightymur:
“The final, brilliant word on passive voice.
"She was killed [by zombies.]"<--passive
"Zombies killed [by zombies] her." <-- active”

🐹 Before viral videos on TikTok or YouTube, there was Hampsterdance.

Full of dancing hamster GIFs & a sped-up tune, it became one of the internet’s first viral hits.

You can still dance to it on the #WaybackMachine ➡️ web.archive.org/web/19991222...

And if we made improvements to air quality, probably less people would develop lung issues and those who have them might be able to reduce their medication use. Also new inhalers which are more environmentally friendly are already on the market (although don't work as well for everyone).

I love my city MORE for all its cultures and diversity- and yes I do know Handsworth- I've worked there a lot over the last 5 years with everyone from Sikh community workers to Muslim litter pickers to CofE congregations. Handsworth has a lot of heart and I've never felt unsafe there while working.

Veteran statue-hugger and former letter-writer to museums pitching to be the next pound-shop Enoch Powell

every Brummie understands what racist trash this is from the Shadow Lord Chancellor—and if you don’t know our second city here’s your prompt to pay a visit!

I was absolutely delighted this morning to see that nearly all the flags have been removed. That is the Stirchley spirit!

The staff are amazing indeed- but sometimes it feels a bit like a full time job being a patient!

Was it a fallow year? Even funnier! My dad went a few times with my older brother in the 90s (over the fence of course) but I have no idea which years now!

I think they probably would have known you were posh because you bothered to buy a ticket. In 1996 more people came in over the fence than paid admission.

Our house continues to be exactly as chaotic but at least today's 'fun' - a giant limb off the Poplar tree smashing through the fence thanks to Storm Amy, isn't costing us money. Its on the neighbours side and they already need to replace like 60% of that fence from the storms LAST winter.

There is a lot I really like about Weoley Castle- the community spirit is strong & I some brilliant projects/events going on. We nearly brought a house there until we found the current one. These 'Warriors' aren't doing their area proud. I'd rather big up the Weoley Wombles (litter pickers).

Learning that you aren't broken- you just organise differently- really is powerful!

Clutterbug is so good for showing you how to work WITH your brain and not against it.

I would love to join- I have so many stories! So. Many.

I'm not sure if I'm ADHD or just dyspraxic but either way I feel this. Cluttering on YouTube really helped me. She recently did a collab with How to ADHD and it was amazing. Knowing that you are a visual organiser and need to see your stuff is life changing.

How delightful. Stirchley is a really great neighbourhood, can't imagine why they aren't fans. Unless it's because there are too many lefties like me...

Feeling a bit like a human pin cushion this week.
Got blood taken Tuesday.

Anti-D today.
I am very enthusiastic about modern medicine. I just don't enjoy the process of participating.

Why do they get police support to cordon off the road? Have they applied for road closures and a license for the work? If so, I assume nearby properties should have been notified?
I don't want flags here. Why are the wishes of some residents (if they are residents?) more important than others?

Nice to see a house with crazier plumbing than ours.

TODAY ON TGS: I was joined by the brilliant Dan Hicks @profdanhicks.bsky.social to talk partly about George Pitt-Rivers, but also partly about the way powerful people marginalize others both before and after they die.
