1/15-Migrating w/updated publications

Meet Hilda. I was one of her doctors. When she died, she left 2 sons behind. My grief about her situation brought anger and then determination.

A #skeetorial on outcomes, advocacy, and policy in dialysis access for undocumented immigrants.

Here are some of the highlights of the appropriations bill that the Senate appropriations committee just approved:

$48.7 billion for NIH, an increase of $400 million

Rejects the proposal to cap
indirect cost rates at 15%

Includes a provision to prevent MYF that would reduce the number of grants

Today #NIH leadership were told no funds can go out for research project grants, R&D contracts or training grants.

We have just a couple weeks to get funds out the door before Russel Vought attempts a #PocketRescission on Aug 15.

Even if this ends up being temporary, it’s time we don’t have.

New📄in @thelancet.com oncology: The US does not have a comprehensive national health insurance plan. Instead coverage is derived from a patchwork of various federal, state, & local policies. This system stymies access to care for ~11M #undocumentedImmigrants currently contributing to the US economy.

Multi-year funding will create “an insane standard that only a lucky few will hit.”

Another attempt by Trump & Vought to tear down science. Because science runs counter to their mission to maintain power by controlling information.

Don’t let them. Call your Senators and Representatives. Get loud!

To put this into perspective, in almost 15 years since my postdoc, the best score I have received on an R01 is 8%. You will need a score of 1 - 5% to land a new grant this year, and likely for years to come. I hope you can pull it off, but this is an insane standard that only a lucky few will hit

If the Supreme Court allows #NIH to terminate ongoing grants because it changed its mind on priorities, it will be the end of NIH and the end of the US as a leader in biomedical science. Period.

We are still showing up every Saturday at 10am. We will there every Saturday until NIH is back on track. @nihvigils.bsky.social

I received this from a wide range of sources.

HHS-wide memo entitled "DEI whistle-blower questionnaire" looking for those who have been harmed by DEI policies.

I guess they are trying to build their case about why DEI policies are harmful since they have repeated claimed that they are...

In light of this morning’s Supreme Court ruling on nationwide injunctions, I must take back my 😔. I now realize Judge Young likely made this decision with some foresight about this potential ruling. And now I like him even more!

The judge intends to limit his order to universities in the plaintiff states (CA, MD, WA, AZ, CO, DE, HI, MA, MN, NV, NJ, NM, NY, OR, RI, WI), members of the plaintiff orgs (APHA, UAW), and the researchers named directly, he said today.

His written opinion will come in the coming days.

Flagging this from #NIH Director #JayLies Bhattacharya. He conveniently fails to link the article he references. Probably because it looks pretty awful when your policies risk cancer patients’ lives. www.washingtonpost.com/science/2025...
NIH Director Jay Bhattacharya posts:

The @NIH remains absolutely committed to the health and welfare of our clinical trial participants, so many of whom over the years have been successfully treated and helped advance medical knowledge by orders of magnitude.🧵 1/3

I find it deeply disappointing of Dr. Rosenberg to claim staffing issues are delaying his research, especially in light of the funding alternatives that were presented to him, which he has been slow in pursuing. 🧵 2/3

As to the current re-organization, no clinical trial has been delayed, nor has any participant been dropped from any clinical trial. These are the facts. NIH clinical trial participants and the American people need to know them.  🧵 3/3

Just in: NIH staff have been instructed to REINSTATE these ~900 grants to comply with the court order, per sources. This comes after staff were also directed to cease any further terminations.

You can see the lists grants to be reinstated in my post below.
