Our lab partnered Gov Cox & @natlgovsassoc.bsky.social to test their Disagree Better initiative. Their PSAs showed positive impacts in our field experiment (w/ @chagaiweiss.bsky.social & Don Green).

We also found in survey experiments that ppl liked and supported the govs in the videos across party lines and among strong partisans

These results show you *can* succeed in American politics - on Left and Right - by showing basic decency for those you disagree with

Then, as chair of @natlgovsassoc.bsky.social, Gov Cox recruited govs to film bipartisan endorsements of civility, nonviolence, and "disagreeing better." In a field RCT, we found these videos increased interest in pro-bipartisan orgs and openness to convos with those they disagree with politically

It is great to see Gov Spencer Cox stepping up to turn the temperature down and focus ppl on grieving the tragic killing of Charlie Kirk. Gov Cox has long promoted civility across party lines. Our research finds that his messages are persuasive when Americans see it.
