I cannot emphasize enough how huge it is to have a formerly incarcerated person in charge of a jail system. I am crying real tears

Richards is the first formerly incarcerated person to lead the city’s jails system

Monbiot's right, and the problem's not just UK. Climate change - or more accurately, climate catastrophe - is around the corner. Meanwhile, Canada will miss 2030 + 2035 climate targets, rolls back climate rules, fast-tracks fossil fuel 'nation-building' (nation-burning?) projects, while disasters ⬆️.
Please spread this far and wide, as stories don't get much bigger than this. When the government blocks even the intelligence services from telling us we're heading for environmental catastrophe, you know we have a problem. A very big problem.
Thank you.

The UK government didn't want you to see this report on ecosystem collapse. I'm not surprised | George Monbiot
It took an FOI request to bring this national security assessment to light. For ‘doomsayers’ like us, it is the ultimate vindication, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Among many other protests against ICE today, sit-ins at Target stores were held nationwide this afternoon, calling on the corporation to "stop collaborating with ICE."

Protesters with signs sang songs & chanted softly as customers passed by.

BC’s current forestry model is about simplifying complex forest ecosystems — meaning our processes and cut levels are founded on replacing most or all old and primary forest in the timber harvesting landbase with ‘managed’ forest.

Canada needs to back Cuba in every sense. Hell, we should give them a nuke but that's not happening anytime soon.
Canada needs thorough denazification through schools and a cultural paradigm shift. It has never happened, and recent events are exemplary of that. Lest we burn up the beautiful place we get to call home.
The average Canadian's knowledge of our country's politics amounts to "We're the nice ones" and any historical evidence to the contrary is either non-existent or an aberration in their minds. Clearing the plains, Boer War, WWI war crimes, aiding US invasions, Somalia Affair, Haiti. All handwaved.

I've said for months that the Epstein files are the distraction, and today when strikes and marches took place across the Fascist States of America, the Epstein files (new batch of documents released) made the front page story. The action against the fascist empire was hardly covered at all.

The word for today is Judenrat. As in the sentence "Schumer is a Judenrat".
Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said the party agreed on three main goals:

° Require warrants in some cases and ICE coordination with state and local law enforcement

° Create a code of conduct and enforce it

° Require agents to wear body cams and not masks
Democrats demand new ICE restrictions as government shutdown looms
After federal agents shot and killed Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, Senate Democrats say they’ll block a massive government funding package without policy changes.

Canadians yearn for BYD manufacturing plants
More layoffs by US automakers in Canada shows exactly why Canada needs an auto deal with China and to try to attract Chinese companies to manufacture in Canada.

We can’t rely on US auto companies to keep making cars here, even though they still expect us to buy them.
GM Canada layoffs hit Oshawa plant, putting up to 1,200 autoworkers out of work Friday | CBC News
The day Oshawa, Ont., autoworkers have dreaded for months has arrived, as GM Canada is poised to cut a shift at the city’s plant, costing over a thousand workers their jobs.

This is not a "possibility," it is very, very obviously what's currently happening. The only reason people in power want to view it as a possibility rather than an ongoing fact is that they are scared of the implications. If it's the latter, they have to *do* something. History calls. It's scary!
"The most disturbing possibility is that the president is creating a militia which answers only to himself ... Abroad, from El Salvador to the Philippines, would-be despots often turn the army and the police against their people in the name of keeping order." www.economist.com/leaders/2026...

- LA is ground zero for chaos tactics that never lose
