OTOH, according to this Electrek story, Tesla robotaxis get in 16 times more crashes than the average human driver.

Autonomous vehicle safety shows a lot of difference from one brand to another.

bsky.app/profile/jgil...
Key information from this story: "humans generally have a crash, whether they are at fault or not, every 700,000 miles. Tesla has 7 in probably ~300,000 miles."

Tesla robotaxis get in crashes at 16 times the rate of human drivers.
“.. Tesla’s current Robotaxi crash rate .. is about 2x higher than Waymo’s, despite in-car supervisors that prevent an unknown number of crashes.”

My frustration is that the folks we want in our big tent can't agree on what the common ground must include and what principles we should abandon in order to build a big movement.

Something that appears to me as unnecessary beef may be life-or-death to others and vice-versa.

I feel similarly, but there's a big obstacle in that there is no consensus on distinguishing "unnecessary ridiculous beef" from crucial matters of principle.

Consider Ezra Klein saying that trans rights and abortion rights are unnecessary beef, and that Charlie Kirk should be welcome.

If you're having worm problems, I feel bad for you, son.
big late breaking news: the market monitor for the largest energy grid in the u.s., covering much of the midwest and mid-atlantic, has called to block new data centers connections to the grid, saying current course of growth assures regular blackouts
No more PJM data centers unless they can be reliably served: market monitor
The PJM Interconnection’s market monitor urged the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to rule that large data centers can only come online if the grid operator can still meet reliability metrics.

We argue that tethered resilience, which reflects people's attachment to their native communities and place, has important implications for understanding interactions between climate change, migration, resilience, and adaptation.

For the US, perhaps, but global coal consumption just keeps growing. It set new records in 2022, again in 2023, and once again in 2024.
Congressional redistricting is monumentally important. But for Black people in places like Fayette County, TN, it is the County Commn where the stakes are highest.

What SCOTUS does in Louisiana v Calláis may threaten Black representation across the rural South.

The Supreme Court may further erode the Voting Rights Act in an upcoming decision. Beyond affecting Congress, that would reverberate across local governments nationwide.

I don't understand how anyone can watch how blatantly Grok is manipulated to answer the way ownership desires it to and then act like the other LLM chatbots couldn't possibly be similarly but less obviously compromised to produce responses in whatever way corporate interests and priorities dictate.
