I liked Mamdani closing his inauguration speech with: The work continues. The work endures. The work has only just begun.
What I loved most about that piece is that she does not use her judgment on herself to descend into shame and self-flagellation, but uses the positive example of Renee Good to say, "Cool! She is showing me a way to be better."
Positive inspiration feels more productive to me than negative shame.
