omg that pumpkin story is hilarious

The delicious irony is that this adorable dog who ate all this food was named after a monk known for his fasting and severe asceticism

My mother left the fridge open a crack, & the family dog (a black lab) ate all the extra carved turkey plus one of the cheesecake wheels where it's a full cheesecake but each slice is a different flavor, and then her took the turkey carcass that still had turkey on it to the back yard and buried it+
no one wants to be interviewed so isaac chotiner is just stalking twitter now looking for new eager victims to admit they are dumbos
My short Elements book "Literate Workers and the Production of Early Christian Literature" is now available on Cambridge Core. It was a lot of fun to learn from the exciting scholarship that's been happening and I hope that it's a useful resource for people. www.cambridge.org/core/element...

I am quote-posting myself because there is no way for me to compose a new post in the browser interface on my desktop. It just disappeared. I logged out and in and still no way to post a new post. Has anyone solved this? Googling suggests logging out and hard reload, which I've tried
Happy #SBLAAR season to all who celebrate! I’m sitting this year out. catch you in Denver or DC I hope. #AARSBL

i used to use BlueGriffon to make/edit webpages--it was a great WYSIWYG/HTML editor that could update using CSS sheets in the folder, but it's kaput and I can't find anything equivalent. any ideas???

This is terrible. He has an H1B visa. (Which is not to say it's not terrible if he didn't but to say that with an H1B visa there's no legal reason to detain him)
My colleague, Dr. Vahid Abedini, was illegally detained by ICE on Saturday. He is currently being held without a court date in sight, despite being in the country legally. Please spread the word! We must ensure his due process rights are upheld. www.oudaily.com/news/ou-prof...

Salazar: "In Congress we've understood that China, we need to bring those jobs back. Maybe to the United States, but maybe near-shoring or rear-shoring. Maybe it's time to bring those jobs to Venezuela and to Chile and to Bolivia and to Central and South America. They happen to be in our back yard."

granted this is a n of 1, but anecdotally have heard this from other parents in other states also

100%. Also, I will add as the parent of a hs sophomore: high schools are cutting back on reading/writing homework and shifting to in-class work. In his adv English class my son reads and writes in class only. His only hw usuly is math & occasional AP US hist but even APUSH has shifted much in class+

This was literally one of the first things many in highered did the momen ChatGPT launched

I totally do this!!!
here's a grim little question for a Sunday afternoon! does anyone know stories from antiquity of folks being forced to swallow molten lead? (martyrs or civilians). i know the stories of Crassus and Valerian and molten gold; any lead-based stories come to mind?

It is so shameful :(

Tar almost fits as well

yeah generally at the White Monastery we assume it's a general store room. But in this context could it be the storeroom with stuff for church services?

in Egypt it might be a storeroom. At least, that's how we've been translating Coptic diakonia and pma ntdiakonia (the place of the diakonia)

bingo

it doesn't even look right
