Our latest paper in @science.org warns about malicious AI swarms, agents capable of adaptive influence campaigns at scale. We already observed some in the wild (picture). AI is a real threat to democracy.

This can be an important reason why many people try out but don't "stick". Starter-pack is great, but it's inherently towards a very small set of the most visible users, not the niches that individual users are drawn to.

This may be a critical feature as a social platform. @jay.bsky.team
The replies to this post surfaced lots of great 3rd party tools (thanks!), but I still think it's interesting that bsky, as a platform, has decided to not prioritize algorithmic triangle closing (or follow recommendations, generally). See this fig from Zignani et al. (2014), when FB introduced PYMK.

BREAKING: The Tribune confirmed on Instagram that the man shot has died, according to two sources with knowledge of the incident.

ICE attempted to order local police from the scene, but Chief Brian O'Hara refused, sources also told the Tribune. O'Hara instructed his officers to preserve the scene.

TikTok is now under US ownership and their new ToS reads like a guide to giving fascists everything they need to put you on a list.

They’re collecting information about immigration status, citizenship, sexual orientation, whether you’re trans or non binary and physical or mental disabilities.

The nerdiest, and thus best, way of getting a bibitex entry from a DOI is by querying it directly via the command

curl -LH "Accept: text/bibliography; style=bibtex" doi.org/10.1016/j.ch...

The second best is just to use @zotero.org for everything.
Just checking, since apparently some are using LLMs to get BibTeX snippets easily.

For Computer Science and ML papers, you know about @dblp.org, right? You know you don't have to use LLMs for that... right?

This is a watershed moment for Texas - for the first time ever, solar supplied more electricity than coal in 2025.

I will say it again: At this rate, TX will likely decarbonize its electricity sector faster than CA.

TX clean electricity is growing at 13%,m more than twice that of CA's at 6%.
Texas solar power surpassed coal in 2025 for the first year ever. Here's why.
In 2025 — for the first year ever — solar arrays provided more electricity to Texas’ main power grid than coal-fired power plants.

Latest on the federal forces in Minnesota from me and my colleague Jeff Hargarten:

There are now more federal immigration agents in MN than the 10 largest Twin Cities police departments combined.

9% of ICE is in MN right now, even though MN has less than 1% of the nation's undocumented immigrants.
Are 3,000 ICE agents ‘disproportionate’ to Twin Cities police forces?
Their presence is bigger than the 10 largest metro police departments combined.

One car repair buys the ebike. One tank of gas covers a year of maintenance. One coffee fuels a whole year of it.
I ran the numbers and the electricity costs for my cargo ebike are about $0.01/mile. The whole bike cost less than the annual maintenance of our car, I’ve put 675 miles on it this year
