Chappell Roan is leaving her talent agency led by Casey Wasserman after he appeared in the Epstein files.
Our DHS reform demands are exceedingly reasonable.

We're asking ICE to do nothing more than follow the standards that the vast majority of law enforcement agencies already follow.

Republicans, the ball is in your court. The clock is ticking.
In the last month ICE has bought warehouses in:

- Hagerstown, MD: $102 million
- Surprise, AZ: $70 million
- Hamburg, PA: $87 million
- Tremont, PA: $120 million
- San Antonio, TX: $82 million
- El Paso, TX: $123 million
- Social Circle, GA: price unknown

This is unprecedented.
Right now Rikers Island, the physically largest jail in the entire United States, is holding under 7,000 people.

ICE's warehouse plans include detention camps which will hold between 8,500-10,000 people in buildings not designed for human habitation.
Very annoyed at the people who decided to open the floodgates to online sports betting, it is absolutely a scourge. Great piece from Gabrielle Gurley on people spending hours a day on these predatory apps.

During freezing temperatures in Port Arthur, Texas, a 61-year-old homeless man was found dead in his wheelchair outside a convenience store.

He was wearing a hospital gown and no shoes. Authorities say he had been released from a hospital the previous day.

This is a diseased society.

So far this month we have sent:

$2,800 in no-questions-asked cash to unhoused & recently housed neighbors

$815 for eviction prevention

$1,200 in utilities to prevent evictions & shutoffs

Thank you for supporting our work & making this possible 🖤🏴

The niche is absolutely there. I am sure there are dozens of us who get distracted in steamy scenes wondering about historically accurate laundry practices or some such thing
i feel like the book is a bit too florid/history dense for the usual romance crowd and a bit too full of gay horniness and sex for the polar exploration crowd but maybe it will find its niche

Some lovely Ophiocordyceps specimens on the walk today.
The proposed centers are so large that some could house as many as 8,000 detainees at once, according to a DHS spreadsheet of more than 20 potential locations that was verified by NBC News. The largest federal prison in the U.S., for example, has roughly 4,000 inmates.
ICE plans to build mega warehouses for immigration detention spark growing concern
Sources at two government contractors told NBC News they were worried that new warehouses — and the large numbers of immigrants who would be housed in them — would present safety problems.

Got my annual covid shot today!

I usually get it in late December, but I was traveling, then sick with a non-covid bug, then starting the semester.

But today I got it, and I mention that because if you haven't had yours yet--or haven't had one in a few years--today is always a good day for it.

Also interesting that Jacob Tierney talks about how extremely long days on set can be driven by a director doing tons of takes and an extremely strict creative vision. Which Jacob says is not his style, he sees TV as being more collaborative and trusting that the way the actors do things

Really appreciate them talking about deliberately planning for 10 hour days on set because
a) extremely long days especially impact hair, make up, wardrobe deps, which are overwhelmingly staffed by women

b) it is actually cheaper to not pay huge amounts of overtime for 15 hour days
Jacob Tierney & Brendan Brady discuss the creative and financial risks they took to make the show and break down the process that allowed them to work on a shoestring budget, without compromising the artistic vision.

I feel like Los Angeles is a place where people expect ICE to happen because the kidnappings have been happening to my home city for decades, so there’s less media attention to it now. and I want folks to see that in LA, Latine students are organizing major protests & the police are attacking them

Democratizing the arts looks like universal income, low-barrier grants for both emerging and working artists, well-funded municipal arts & recreation programs, vibrant third spaces, and a well-funded public school system with progressive curriculum.

Not a free pass for corporate-owned slop engines.
Every instance of "AI democratizes the arts, you're classist and ableist and a gatekeeper for trying to stop it" is a slap in the face to the literally centuries of poor, disabled people making art on the margins and a crass lie in service of a machine that strips down and regurgitates dreams
