This year has been a great year for getting back in the world and taking great photos.

I'm progressively updating www.eyetothefinder.co.uk, my Instagram www.instagram.com/alexwscott/ and my flickr www.flickr.com/photos/alexs...

It helps to be able to spell the country you say only you are competent enough to run.

On our first full day in Namibia this lovely chap popped up, checked us out and promptly had a nap.

But thank god Robert Jenrick wasn't carrying a Palestine Action poster

Otherwise he would be siding with proscribed terrorists!

Hello, I'm an anaesthetist/intensivist in a film. I am only ever seen taking orders from a surgeon, have no speaking part, and am cast in order for someone to get an Equity card.

Hello, I’m a cardiologist in a film. I’m a dick.

Hello, I'm an epidemiologist in film. I'm a socially awkward loner working obsessively to collect & analyse data that will prove why 'the government' or some other 'experts' are wrong about a new disease.

There's a 90% chance that I will catch the disease & die before everyone realises I'm right.

Catastrophising leaves a lot of room for fascism to arrive.

I have said this before but I find the constant British catastrophizing really quite worrying. Yes there are big problems. But
Terminal decline?
Everything falling apart?
Hopelessly broken?

I find this attitude frightening.

What an appalling waste, all preventable.

Until recently forgoing vaccination has been largely without consequence as most people do the right thing.

Now we have a critical mass of unvaccinated people and these infections are a real threat again maybe people will start to reconsider.

So far this year there have been 529 confirmed cases, with 109 in the month to July 3. The majority, 357, were in children under ten.

That many employers including ours will take our labour until we're empty and then institute something like a health improvement plan, turning things back onto the employee.

This isn't resilience, it's self defence.
cheapoflurane.bsky.social
Yes, I advise and support on these on a daily basis - this is my role.

But it's not "learn to be resilient" - it's "take some of the brick away" and "somehow describe 40hrs a week as LTFT" and "take away the pressures of training for a bit".

In coaching it's often allowing people to realise

Once you’re out of the south east we have a similar economy to Romania.

They're coming from ED, hyperacute stroke, L3 laparotomies, emergency airways etc etc

The original slide feels very South East centric, with healthier populations and much less extreme poverty.

As for learning to be resilient: anyone who gets through ICM training is much more than two standard deviations above the population mean for resilient.

"Learn to be better at getting hit over the head with a brick"

How about we take the brick away?
