Kamala Harris: "It feels chaotic, but what I would offer you is what we are witnessing is the swift implementation of a plan that was decades in the making. Project 2025 didn't just drop out of thin air. That's a product of decades of work. Federalist Society, Heritage Foundation ... "

american masculinity is so amazing. caring about clothes as a man apparently makes you "gay" but our position on geopolitics totally depends on whether you wear a suit

it is pretty striking that despite a wholesale abandonment of Reagan foreign policy, aesthetics, etc, domestically the GOP is still doing the exact same 1980s routine of robbing the poor to give to the rich slate.com/news-and-pol...
The Republican Party’s Constituency Has Changed. It Isn’t Acting Like It.
The congressional majority has a priority. It would be really bad for its constituents.

One of my best friends is from a sleepy, wealthy small town in the south-west of Germany. He said, so many of my parents’ neighbours are rich and bored, with little to complain about, and they’ve radicalised themselves at dinner parties and online. In their aimlessness, they’ve bonded over hate.
This isn’t some rant saying “Germany has learned nothing from its past” - the reality is more subtle than that. Middle-class Germans live and travel with an incredible amount of ease and comfort, and they just got…sleepy. Many of them dismissed the far-right’s rage as just another set of complaints.
Just filed an article about the upcoming German elections (out on Sunday) and what strikes me is how timid much of the institutional pushback against the far-right has been. Some people have distinguished themselves but for the most part it’s just been really complacent - really disappointing.

if I understand American politics correctly, progressivism is something that requires 60 senate votes to work, while national conservatism doesn’t require any votes at all

Pretty crazy someone can be charged federally with interfering in an election and those charges get dropped because they win an election.
