Wow, top article on UK National Emergency Briefing! By Claire Pool <notes name>.
"food supply crisis cd cause civil unrest in the U.K. within the next decade, food security experts say". 👍
Mentions WW2 and mobilisation twice. Very good! Establish this image so itemised rationing is the logical next.
UK Security, Food And Economy At Risk Without Climate Action, Experts Say
Experts at the U.K.’s first national emergency briefing on climate and nature shared risks in a world being rapidly destabilised by climate and biodiversity breakdown

Yes. 8% is the global reduction rate from the start of 2026 &for an “83% chance of not exceeding 2°C” (based on Lamboll et al 2023 budgets). Include a relatively weak interpretation of international equity & the UK reduction rate would be nearer 13%pa; similar to that for most ‘developed’ countries.

Excellent action on just transition from UK Gov:
Huge news from the UK today: after UN climate talks in which there was a massive fight over language on fossil fuels, the UK government today announced that it will in fact be keeping many millions of barrels of oil & gas in the ground. Deeds rather than just words for a change! 🧵

⚡️🔒 Britain is still locked out of the electric future following today’s Budget.

Yes, there’s short-term relief - but it doesn’t back the long-term electrification we need to escape the cost of living crisis.

If the EV road charge is set at 3p per mile tomorrow, that's about the same as adding 25p per litre to fuel duty.

Let that sink in.

Cutting #heatpump support would be a false economy.

Yes it’s taken up by middle and higher income households but these early adopters are helping companies build out their customer journeys, deal with teething problems, support #greenjobs and normalise a new technology. It’s not a handout.

Clearly the aim here is political rather than economic: it’s about building credibility with markets ahead of a push for independence

That’s fine - as long as politicians are clear that’s the aim, and don’t mislead the public by acting like this will result in more investment

The cost of living crisis was caused in large part by gas prices.

Heat pump policy supports a solution which which gets the country off gas AND reduces emissions.

I seriously hope this is some crossed wires, if not we really are in trouble.

One of the most precious things about Remembrance is that it sets no political tests.

It asks only that we "remember", and that we do so in the silence of our own thoughts.

It doesn't dictate what we remember, how we remember or what lessons we draw.

That's between ourselves and our conscience.🧵

Tessa Khan of Uplift doing a great job of grounding discussion at the Just Transition Commission Summit in the ecological and economic reality of the climate crisis.
Discussion is otherwise dancing a little too politely around the feelings of the oil and gas industry IMO.

my takeaway from climate week nyc is that "climate storytelling" is a little too much "we must reimagine our deepest souls in relationship to mother nature and the moral abyss of the polycrisis into which we must now stare" and not enough "ok but get a heat pump"
