With a growing number of politicians calling for closer ties with our European neighbours, yesterday the Mayor of London, Sir Sadiq Khan, joined them. It is clear - there is widespread public support for repairing our relationship with Europe, and the Government must listen.

The daft thing is that with Proportional Representation there'd be no need for this self-destructive war within Labour. It could split into its component parts - left and right - and people could vote for what they wanted. It's only First-Past-the-Post that forces these irreconcilables together.

It is clear that in order to effectively repair our relationship with Europe, we must reset it, and focus on the future, rather than dwell on the past. We must rebuild our trade ties, work together on defence, and rejoin key programmes such as the European Chemicals Agency.
