Liberal Democrat MP for Dorking & Horley
I’ve been campaigning for Travelodge to resurface its car park – this is now complete. They have resurfaced the entire car park and replaced the drainage to stop the awful potholes and flooding. Steve’s also been campaigning for this for 2 years and is pleased to see it be a success.

A group of headteachers representing over 300 primary schools across Surrey have written to the Education Secretary that they have diminished trust in Surrey County Council because the positive messages the council is communicating about SEND is not reflecting their experience. 1/2

Brexit has smashed a £90bn black hole in our economy. So I asked the Chancellor (and reported in the Guardian) if she’d join several other Labour MPs in supporting Liberal Democrat proposals for a UK EU customs union. She told me it was a good try!

A customs union with the EU would lower borrowing costs overnight and help grow our economy. Today, I backed @alpinkerton.bsky.social's bill to introduce a customs union to tackle the current cost of living crisis we are facing.

This week, I asked Members from the Office for Budget Responsibility about their prediction that the government will reduce SEND funding by £2.2 billion in 2029/30. The Department of Education said that the OBR's predictions were "fundamentally wrong".

SES will be spending £600,000 between January and April to fix Betchworth water tower. After hundreds of people suffered frequent power cuts and loss to water, I spoke to UK Power Networks and SES water to get this sorted.

Americans are twice as rich as they were in 2008. Why are we 10% poorer? Short-termist policymaking has ignored decades of research that policies to support innovation raise growth, such as public R&D. 1/2

The Budget was another missed opportunity to address the fundamental challenges we face. Brexit left a £90 billion black hole and was a disaster - a customs union with the EU would lower borrowing costs overnight. 1/2

The Local Government Ombudsman has written to the Ministry of Local Government given the seriousness of the concerns raised by @alpinkerton.bsky.social and I about governance at Surrey County Council on SEND.

Phone reception has improved in Dorking after I raised the issue to VodafoneThree.I met them again yesterday because other areas are still experiencing problems. In Walliswood they’ve recently deployed a new site which has extended coverage and are working to do the same in Ewhurst.

Much of the tax increases in today’s budget are driven by the Office of Budget Responsibility downgrading UK productivity growth by £16bn.

Travelodge Dorking is resurfacing its carpark. I’ve been pushing for this since my election; writing to the CEO and social media. It will take four weeks, and the drainage will be replaced to stop the flooding.

I spoke to BBC Radio Surrey this morning about audiology services returning to Dorking Community Hospital this week. Hundreds of my constituents were left stranded without warning after its abrupt closure at the end of May due to an IT error.

When Sara Sharif was removed from school on 17th April 2023 the school immediately flagged their concerns with Surrey County Council (SCC). They also returned the required form to the Council shortly afterwards, confirming her removal from school and that they had safeguarding concerns.

Audiology services will be back at Dorking Community Hospital from this Monday. It's wonderful news for hundreds of people in our community who were left stranded when they were shut without warning over the summer.
