The southernmost glacier in Norway is about to extinct soon! 😰
Breifonn was not exactly a small glacier at the end of the LIA (6 km²).
But only scattered patches totalising 0.15 km² remain today, meaning disappearance in the next few years... 😱

That was a fab symposium on ice streams, thank you and very well done to the hosts. We also had dinner in a castle and got see Hadrian’s wall and drumlins and sheep and joke about Barnard Castle, oh and some very nice pubs
Reflecting back on how enjoyable it was to host the @igsoc.bsky.social Symposium here at @geogdurham.bsky.social. A big thank you to everyone who attended, presented and contributed to organisation! It was lovely to see so many friendly faces and to hear about some fantastic glaciological science! ❄️

Simms et al present an investigation of a MIS 3 (~50 ka) raised shoreline deposit in northwestern Scotland. Since it is located above present day sea level, if the age is correct, it implies a significant MIS 4 glaciation of Scotland. ⚒️🧪🦣 doi.org/10.1002/jqs....
