I love horror fiction. My entry point to reading, that point where I knew books were going to be important to my life, was Edgar Allan Poe.

But although good horror lit draws me in, it doesn't scare me. It doesn't freak me out or keep me up at night. It's like I'm missing that piece of my brain.

Ah, so this is pure bullshit: "A senior Biden administration official, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss the White House’s plans, said Biden was not directing the archivist to certify the amendment, sidestepping what could have become a legal battle over the separation of powers."

I think journalists, policymakers and good govt types are struggling to understand DOGE because their mental model is that it is a government reform commission, operating like previous ones. Maybe. But it might be better to start thinking about it as a hostile takeover of the govt by oligarchs.

Well, this was a bit surprising. First, I have been going to Yolo Bypass near Davis, CA very very often and always dream of getting a good raptor pic with the "Hunter Check Station" sign. And I got one today of a kestrel sitting on that sign. Yes, this is a hunter check station.

I love reading memoir. I look for well written, vital stories from people I've never heard of. Just regular or irregular people reflecting on life.

This is a favorite of mine. The story of a dysfunctional family.
It contains violence, crime, mystery, ghosts and brotherhood. Highly recommended.
