The new season of Jury Duty's going great so far.
Border Patrol agent Lairmore testifies that he was not injured by the sandwich, but he felt the impact through his ballistic vest.

The sandwich came apart and "kind of exploded" on his chest upon impact, he says.

"I could smell the onions and mustard."

Let's just all sit back and enjoy the 2026 baseball season because we're losing at least a year in 2027.

People would be more excited about the ridiculous Ohtani game if he was doing it to beat the Evil Empire, rather than doing it for the Evil Empire.

People who love "War and Peace" haven't read "War and Peace."

My dog is going to her first day of dog school today and I learned six hours before class that there was work we needed to complete before the first class so now I'm having major flashbacks to basically my entire academic career.

I tried to google the essay I once wrote for Gawker because it had some amazing artwork attached to it and yeah, AI fucking nailed this one.

Now reading, because it feels kinda appropriate in these times, at least to me.

(Also don't love Peaver and Volokhonsky translations but sometimes you gotta dance with whom you came to the dance with–meaning read the copy of the book you already own.)

*At the doctor’s office after watching football on network TV for two straight days:

Doctor: “Do you have any questions or concerns?”

Me, unrolling a piece of paper the length of a CVS receipt: “I’ve been instructed to ask you if the following medications are right for me.”

"Hey, you watch that new true crime documentary?"

"Yeah. Watching it now."

"What part are you on?"

"The 45 minute off ramp when you realize they have no new evidence or information to share so they just keep switching between quotes from the victims' families."

Went through TSA this morning and handed the guy my license. He said “You don’t have a a Real ID,” and I reflexively responded “I dunno, looks pretty real to me.” Then they tested my hands for bomb residue.

What if, and I’m just spit-ballin here, we built more housing AND banned private equity from owning them.
"Private equity is causing the housing crisis" is a very common take that mixes up cause and effect. Single-family homes are an attractive investment vehicle for private equity because there's a shortage of them, not the other way around.

Just finished Lili Anolik’s “Didion & Babitz.” Good book, interesting, liked it but it sorta didn’t meet my own expectations b/c I thought it would be more “Memorable Days” rather than Biography. Still worth reading but this A+ passage needs to be commemorated:
