CNN: DHS officials have come to FEMA staff and told them to limit the use of the word ice…they are worried that by posting something like, watch out for the ice, that it's going to become a meme….

A not so gentle reminder that government inefficiency will NEVER cost less than profit margins, greed, or the lost accountability of privatization. Public goods and utilities should be publicly owned, full stop

Ridership is up despite serious reliability issues and equipment shortages. When the new trains show up next year and frequencies increase, I suspect ridership will explode even more

In obscure news, the critical in-line station at Tukwila Int Blvd Station for the Stride BRT is now moving forward.

Initially put on hold due to a failing fish culvert, the culvert has been repaired and the project is moving forward

Those who think the Reagan ads were a bad idea for having irrationally annoyed the president for reasons having nothing to do with their merits are, I assume, writing urgent letters to the Toronto Blue Jays organization urging them to lose the World Series for the same reason

I’m at a parking conference in the PNW and spent 30 minutes talking with parking professionals about…

Trains.

Even the most car-brained people in the country recognize the value and need for train travel. They even specifically mentioned China’s superiority in this field

This is such a bad faith argument that permeates a lot of urbanism content right now. “Let’s continue to charge folks because businesses might benefit!!!” *proceeds to not advocate for a systemic change where business contribute to transit funding via taxes instead of consumer fares* 🧵
“If Metro were to remove fare revenue from its balance sheet, that move would actually represent a disproportionate benefit to businesses who pay for monthly passes used by their employees.”
The idea of a fare-free pilot on several Metro routes came about as fares have shrunk as a percentage of Metro's overall sources of revenue. But data suggests dropping fares wouldn't be as big of a boon as continuing to focus on expanding transit service.

Dear Toronto: We will stop scoring runs this game if Doug Ford agrees to stop tearing out bike lanes. Until then, the runs will continue.
