Crazy week with the group ride, live event and a day trip to LA but I still made it to pilates
Incredible things happening in Tijuana, BC. Apparently a sort of cat cafe concept has recently opened but with a raccoon instead of cats

San Diego rents fall 5.5%—proof that building housing works.

Add 6,000 apartments, prices drop.

This eases pressure on voucher programs, helps low-income renters, makes the city more accessible.

Want sustained affordability? Keep building.

‘Rental market is largely frozen’: San Diego rent prices fall in national rankings
National rents are down 2% annually but Zumper said Southern California is seeing more of a slowdown because of increased supply.

Beards are awful and long beards are especially gross. Men look better clean shaven 100% of the time, without exception. I want that soft cheek!
Opinions are like beards, everybody's got 'em! Let's hear yours: sound off in the comments if you agree with this caller and you are ANTI-Beard or if you are PRO-beard and you think they are just misunderstood.🧔

Enrollment decline has battered local schools, but new docs obtained by VOSD show just how hard San Diego Unified has been hit. Last year, nearly half of district schools may have been "underutilized," meaning they're at less than 70 percent capacity. 16 percent of schools were less than half full.
Nearly Half of San Diego Unified Schools May Be ‘Underutilized’
A 2023 report shows that about half of San Diego Unified schools are operating at under 70 percent of the schools’ capacity. With enrollment decline likely to continue in coming years, that’s a danger...

Other Olympics host cities create new permanent housing. Not only is LA not building housing, we're going to convert already scarce existing housing into hotels 🫠
Airbnb has a new report out by Deloitte that says LA needs more Airbnbs for LA's Olympic and Paralympic Games (because of course that's what they're going to say lol)

One thing the report NEVER mentions is that Airbnb and Deloitte are both global partners of the IOC!
New report shows how short-term rentals can help meet demand during LA28
A new report by Deloitte examines how lodging demand during the LA28 Olympic Games could exceed typical market capacity during peak competition days.

I met an older man while tabling for BikeSD who was so scared of getting a ticket for riding his ebike on the PB boardwalk. Said he can't pedal very far on his own anymore and the ebike has been a godsend but he doesn't want to risk a big fine just trying to get his daily exercise
It really annoys me that the moral panic over e-bikes obscures the incredible impact they have had for disabled people.
This. For the disabled they are a vital tool, and without mine, I am housebound. The inherent ableism infuriates me, especially since I am a careful rider. In every incident I have been in, and there are very few, I was the victim not the cause. Every time.

The mayor announces he's reverting back to free parking for residents and the first comment I see is complaining about the bike lanes.

Just feeds right into the attitude that drivers are entitled to 100% of all public space for free.

Just saw an IG reel touring the $4.4M Park Laurel penthouse where this luxury real estate agent immediately complains about paid parking. Bro, this place practically inside Balboa Park and I think your clients can afford parking fees

Absolutely correct. This is Gilman Dr, it is a huge gap btw UCSD and the only bike route to downtown.

The city of San Diego is spending an ungodly amount of money and using eminent domain to build a bike lane ex nihilo out of the hillside instead of simply using one of the existing vehicle lanes.

I still think the best idea for progressive donors is to just revive every alt-weekly in the country and staff them with 10 reporters each.
I wrote a bit about the misguided effort by Democrats to replicate Joe Rogan the right-wing podcast ecosystem.
