This, from the Quakers, is a pretty good example of how to resist pressure from bigot lobbying groups. Effectively “we legally can allow trans people to use the loo, we morally should, and we tried it and nothing bad happened”

@belalugosisdad.bsky.social is there a good way to share something with you?
clarered.bsky.social
Thinking it will cover topics like -
• Resilience building
• Tackling misinformation
• Your legal position as a charity
• Making and sharing art that addresses these themes
• How to hold difficult conversations
What else should we cover?

I am planning an event @wshed.bsky.social for the culture sector around our collective role in building togetherness to combat the rise of the far right. I am talking with Hope not Hate and imagining a mix of talk and workshop covering. Is this something you would be interested to attend?

It is of course more than toilets. The culture sector stands in love and solidarity with our Trans, Nonbinary and Intersex communities.

Feeling VERY proud. The open letter to the EHRC from the culture sector was submitted today with over 1600 signatures. And the press are covering it all over the country. Can still sign tho if you would like! tinyurl.com/ehrcletter.

We have an amazing 1, 500 signatures from people and organisations at all scales across the UK. Just 24 hours left to go - please sign and share if you can.

Our CEO Clare Reddington has worked with trans activists to create an open letter to the Equality and Human Rights Commission from the Culture Sector, in solidarity with Trans, Nonbinary and Intersex communities.

I appreciate you coming to chat with me, for making your views really clear, listening and continuing to disagree with me. Let’s keep talking.
belalugosisdad.bsky.social
I've spoken to Clare in person. She's clearly very upset, and feels put in an impossible situation, and I appreciate her willingness to talk. However I still completely disagree with the decision to go ahead with this event, and I believe her reading of their legal obligations is incorrect.

this is the full applicable part of charity commission guidance. Obviously the law can be read in lots of different ways. As we are not organising the event and it is not a selective hustings, our reading i that we do not have the ability at this stage to cancel www.gov.uk/government/p...
clarered.bsky.social
We weren’t organising the event. A hustings goes ahead with whoever candidates show up. He didn’t turn up
clarered.bsky.social
When the dust settles I’ll have a think about how we might stage an event to discuss how cultural organisations can contribute to democracy in a time of political extremism. We also dont plan to host any hustings in the near future.
clarered.bsky.social
No Reform candidate has turned up for the hustings @wshed.bsky.social. What is happening is an important discussion about disability and access on public transport.

Yes! sorry i thought you didnt want to. Ask for me at Box office and they will track me down.
clarered.bsky.social
would you like to come in for a chat? We legally cannot change our position and i dont think the internet is going to be best suited to this discussion? Anyone is welcome.

Democracy is not served by cancelling people you disagree with. Beat them with your arguments, positive policies and..for those politically motivated…your hard work getting the message out.

Bear in mind some candidates will be less than happy walking up those 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ stairs and with an award winning 🚾 🤭

Here is a piece from our CEO @clarered.bsky.social on the WECA Mayoral Transport Hustings taking place today.

In it Clare shares some context in response to public feedback (some are angry we haven't cancelled the event, others have expressed support).
