devs! want to build something on #atproto but not sure where to start?

check out this "Call for Projects" with a bunch of ideas, ranging from protocol frameworks, to entire apps, to bots
Call for Developer Projects · bluesky-social atproto · Discussion #3049
The last few weeks have seen a swell of developer interest in atproto. Welcome! The protocol is maturing, and now is a great time for early adopters to jump in and start building. This post lists s...

Interested in revisiting setting up my own PDS again, does anyone have some updated resources they could give me? I work 60+ hours a week but i’d love to put in some work on it in my free time :)

the solution to atproto decentralization is to stop whining to bluesky pbc about how they need to decentralize and to instead start putting in the work of hosting alternative servers, owning your rotation keys, creating uis to make this easy for people, and host your own data

I should explain lol, Discord has new embeds for Bluesky that include pulling video mp4s from your PDS and fronting them with their own CDN. this is (a very narrow slice of) an AppView!

very protocol, very AT. we love to see it!

The atproto/Bluesky protocol is fully open and highly decentralized.

Just like the web was.

The current atproto/Bluesky network is fairly centralized because it’s so new there aren’t many network providers yet.

Just like the web was.

Bluesky is proof that cryptocurrency isn't a core tenant of decentralization. The team demonstrated extreme levels of pragmatism by leveraging new and existing technologies to produce something people actually use.

Bluesky, decentralisation, and the distribution of power
Bluesky is building a decentralised social network. But how does decentralisation lead to a better distribution of power?

everyone needs to give the servers some headpats. they pulled through today even while being real sad. can you drop a *headpats* in the replies so the servers know you love them?

It means Bluesky is now actually operating on the Federation Architecture model described in this blog post
Federation Architecture Overview
Soon, we’re launching a sandbox environment for federation. In advance, we want to share some technical details about our design decisions.

This post is traversing

PDS -> BGS -> AppView

instead of the old path

PDS -> AppView

This took significant work by @why.bsky.team and @jaz.bsky.social with support from @divy.zone and @dholms.xyz

Big milestone in the v2 scaling effort because it enables multiple Bluesky PDS instances!

Algorithmic choice isn't a silver bullet for avoiding "bad algorithms", though.

Whatever algorithms other people are choosing, on average, will shape which posts people get shown most, creating feedback loops. There's a meta-algorithm, effectively.
People keep saying bluesky has "no algorithm" but that's not really true. What it *does* have is algorithmic choice. If you want a reverse-chronological timeline, you can have it. If you want only images of cats, you can have that. If you want a magic Algorithm, the discover feed (et al.) has it
