The problem with AI is screamingly obvious to me. It’s essentially in the hands of 2 evil regimes: The US and China who will ‘train’ the models to reflect their inherently evil world views. We already see this with #grok, and though #twitter is not an AI, the same principle applies there too.

I hope this will spread widely:

Liam Neeson chose to narrate an antivax documentary which backed RFK, said vaccines cause autism and called lifesaving Covid vaccines “dangerous experiments”

Shame on him. His career won’t end over this but it should.

@bencoates1.bsky.social visited my daughter in Amsterdam today and the only parking place I could find was on the side of a canal without any form of railing or pillars between my car and the water. Bloody frightening!

Rewatched some Star Trek tonight.
Still wild how a show about warp drives and weird nebulae ends up teaching the cleanest lessons about being human.
Every episode says the same thing in its own way:

Alongside declining polls for Reform, the good news about the Telegraph’s volte face on Brexit is that it gives Labour political cover from the far right to reapply to rejoin the EU. www.thelondoneconomic.com/politics/the...
Told you so! The Telegraph denounces Brexit as 'unmitigated economic disaster'
We've now got The Telegraph joining the Brexit resistance, after the formerly pro-leave paper ripped into its 'near-disastrous' consequences.

Around 26,000 of the neediest people in County Durham will have to start paying council tax next year...

About 2,400 others who already pay some council tax will lose part of their rebate.

Women and the disabled will be disproportionately affected.

Not quite what Reform UK had promised.

Durham will scrap full council-tax rebates, forcing 26,000 low-income working-age residents to start paying for the first time

Still reeling from the Stanford report on Brexit. Reduced GDP by up to 8% and investment by as much as 18%. The UK Treasury would have £40 billion more each year if Britain had remained in the EU. Devastating self-immolation.

A decade later, though, the iPad Pro has changed. Rather than try to make it into something other than a laptop, Apple made it… a laptop.
