The Institute of Economic Affairs – the anti-state, anti-climate pressure group that "incubated" Liz Truss – was bankrolled by oil giants and Rupert Murdoch’s media empire.

Politicians who have gifted themselves platinum-plated health care plans for life will now lecture others on how to best afford unaffordable health care.
Roger Marshall: "We want patients to become consumers again. We want patients to see what the actual prices are. We believe that if we would add the price tags to this bill, that it would save the country a trillion dollars a year."

Please note that oil and gas are allowed to claim the 45Q tax credit without any verification that they actually captured the CO2 they said they did — and certainly without having to sequester the carbon 🤡
UPDATE: 3 things I learned today

1) Political leaders haven’t thought much about the health threats of CO2 capture and storage. Eg CO2 pipelines have kill zones. Leaks can acidify aquifers and mobilize heavy metals.

2) 45Q tax credits for CCS are now by far the biggest subsidy to oil and gas

AND…
Here at the US Capitol to talk with some senators about the risks and harms of carbon capture and storage, which is mostly used to extract more oil from ground, enjoys taxpayer subsidies, is prone to escape, threatens drinking water and public health, and is generally scammy.

Science belongs here.

The Carney government clearly has a major problem with the whole concept of accountability. Instead of strengthening 🇨🇦s laws, they keep legislating themselves new ways to circumvent them.

Rather than changing things like the Endangered Species Act, they just choose where it will & won't apply. 🧵1/

I have so many questions about what looks like PM Goldman Sachs' choice (and close personal friend.)

Hillman is a career diplomat and lawyer who worked closely on past trade negotiations and she'll be replaced with an investment banker?

hard to overstate how bad this is for discrimination against everyone but white people.

I'm saying we are undergoing a wholesale revision of equal protection and anti-discrimination law so that it only protects white people.

Let me explain:
This makes facially neutral policies--like poll taxes and literacy tests--that we know were adopted for discriminatory purposes legal. Organizations can now simply claim there was no discriminatory intent regardless of outcome. It's unconstrained institutionalized racism.
