This is why I go to used bookstores: I stumbled on a book published in 1936 that's a first person account of a reporter losing his mind trying to write a script in Hollywood. It's the proto BARTON FINK.

You know how Trump gets stupid ideas stuck in his head forever?

“In a July 2017 private briefing with intelligence officials, President Donald Trump apparently asked why the US wasn’t at war with Venezuela, noting that “they have all that oil and they’re right on our back door.”

An administration driven by greed, cruelty, and frankly a sort of empty-hearted boredom. The death of innocents so they can beat their chests and line their already fat wallets.

Whatever comes next has to at least look like justice. We cannot just turn the page for the sake of one party’s comfort.
BREAKING: Venezuela’s government has accused the US of launching attacks on civilian and military installations across several states, rejecting what it described as a "military aggression," according to an official statement.

Shoutout to Come Back to the 5 & Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean. Definitely one of my favorite first time watches of the year.
2025 was my most sparse movie watching year since the pandemic but at least I got a lot of reading in. My most watched actor was Mel Blanc and my most watched director was Altman.

I'm so goddamn tired of saying this but: this is it.

All the worrying that trans folks have had since he took office? This is why. This is the first step on a short road that ends with the criminalization of trans existence in the US. It isn't doomsaying. It isn't panic. It's right in front of us.

The White House plans to bar hospitals that treat transgender children and youth from getting any Medicare and Medicaid payments. The move would affect trans youth who have private insurance, too. n.pr/4qFa1mY

Peter Gabriel’s Last Temptation score/soundtrack is arguably the fulfillment of his entire career path and my fav thing he’s ever done.
Best movie score that is rarely mentioned when great movie scores are discussed, maybe because it's unconventional?

I think my number one is Neil Young's score for Jim Jarmusch's Western Dead Man.

Catwoman: Lonely City is a great looking, enjoyable read that probably isn’t going to stick with me in any meaningful way. The superhero universe of it all isn’t really incorporated in an interesting way. Ivy and Riddler might as well have been different characters for the generic roles they play.

If WWE is feeding old programming to this AI generator for creative, I cannot imagine how many drafts they’re getting that are just like:

“Vince McMahon forces himself on a new Diva, then Chris Benoit returns to say something cryptic that should’ve rang a bell at the time - and some rematches.”
