HAPPENING NOW — This morning, Mayor Brandon Johnson signed an executive order establishing “ICE-free zones.”

“That means that city property and unwilling private businesses will no longer serve as grounds for these raids,” Johnson said to applause.

ICE is doing a hell of a lot of harm in the Chicago area *right now.* I don’t mean to trivialize the national guard stuff, it absolutely is an irresponsible escalation, but the guard-centric convo around this really does understate what’s going on without any guardsmen.

Oh yeah your post about linux mint gave me the push i needed. I then discovered my computers hardware is just crashing one by one so i havent been on it much but loving what i see so far. No bloat! Amazing how refreshing it is to be off windows.

Non violence is good tactic. Sometimes, it is insufficient I don't demonize people who find themselves confronted with the insufficiency of non violence.

You know, Germany was liberated by a dual invasion of the Russians and the western powers. I don't know what foreign army could come save us. Just, logistically, it seems unlikely. And non violent protest relies either on legal mechanisms eventually kicking in, or

I feel like Americans have a near fetishistic adoration of the idea of nonviolent protest which distorts what it can and cannot accomplish and holds it up as the highest and most legitimate form of political action. This belief will cripple us in the event that Trump can't be stopped by legal means.
