More importantly, it was highly irresponsible of the @nytimes.com to publish this article (which I know they’ve been working on for months) right now. It sends a message to an unaware public that the socialists in City Hall are somehow responsible for current national attacks on Portland.

a reinvention of downtown would involve a lot of new thinking, something that I think scares the wealthy even if it could work to their advantage. downtown's economic purpose is flagging so it needs to be something else now!!!!

you know in fairness some of it isn't even 'the pandemic' per se, it's what the pandemic triggered that was going to happen anyway, the work from home exodus which I suspect hit Portland pretty hard
