It occurs to me now that the discipline of history was not born out of reverence for the past, but rather out of somebody watching the people in charge make the most insane decisions and just being like “if I don’t write this down nobody’s ever gonna believe any of it happened”

The biggest unforced error of the left is being shocked every time the right is hypocritical.
"You say people shouldn't do x, but you do x yourself!"
Of course they do. They're very open about their belief that those with privilege should get special rules. Why are you still surprised???

The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email
