Judge Merchan takes Trump's sentencing date off the calendar while the parties brief Trump's motion to dismiss the case & vacate the conviction. Sad day for the rule of law.

Ok, Gaetz's House seat. Things I am certain about:
1. Gaetz may not come back to the 118th Congress. He has resigned his seat, and there are no backsies for Members who resign their seat. (h/t @ringwiss.bsky.social)

Reminder: border walls don’t stop people from crossing the border, though they do waste billions and destroy ecosystems.

Organ Pipe, where I filmed this video, was *entirely* walled off by Trump, yet it saw the most crossings anywhere along the border last year.

More walls aren’t the answer.

We should talk more about how abnormal it is for a special counsel's office to be shuttered by a change in administrations. Hunter Biden's SC stayed in place as did others. Jack Smith has to discontinue Trump's cases while he's in office but he has other defendants. Trump breaks norms & it's ignored

Trump’s election means he won’t face trial in Georgia until 2029, if ever. But I think people are sleeping on the fact that during his presidency there could be televised trials of his co-defendants, with prosecutors presenting much of the same evidence they would have presented against Trump.
NEW: The Georgia Court of Appeals has canceled the Dec. 5 oral argument it previously scheduled to hear Trump’s appeal seeking to disqualify Fulton County district attorney Fani Willis.

Argument is canceled “until further order of this court.”

Pay attention to Oklahoma.

Bibles in classrooms isn't the big story.

The same legal teams behind the seeding of Dobbs are driving a case to create religious schools fully funded by the public & they've already petitioned the Supreme Court.

Understandably, everyone was focused on the election.

Unusually, the Senate is still in session. After confirming one circuit judge, Chuck Schumer has kept the chamber in session to tee up votes on over a half-dozen more judges, against Republican opposition. This is the main Democratic project of the lame duck before they cede power.

It’s utterly baffling, especially after we all spent four years watching Trump attempt to do pretty much all the awful things he said he’d do.

What the hell is this impulse to reject the obvious about what Trump is and what he’s going to try to do?
