His first attempt was with Albert Leo Schlageter, a Freikorps member and saboteur, who was caught attempting to blow up a train in the Ruhr region, which at the time was occupied by French troops in retaliation for Germany's not adhering to its schedule of reparation payments. Schlageter had been executed by the French and his grave later became a Nazi shrine. If our political press convinces Democrats to focus on Joe Biden for the next however many months instead of doing everything they can to stop Republicans from their continued push to end democracy, it will be the greatest gift to authoritarianism in generations.
For the most part, leading Democrats are ducking what is fast becoming the first real litmus test of the 2028 campaign: former President Biden's mental acuity.

They're actively taking away legal status in order to deport brown and black people. Detaining US citizens. Treating fellow human beings like animals. Don't look away. Acknowledge that this is wrong so others can do the same. Most people don't pay attention. They don't know how bad this is.
