I think the craziest part of this marathon is realizing that this was a 3 year evolution and then you skip forward a decade from Pole Position and Sega did this like a year and a half apart. And Daytona was 57-ish FPS while Virtua Racing was 30.

Sometimes I think: if Mario Kart wasn't so popular in the 2000s, many other games (mainly other licensed mascot kart racers) would have been made a little more competently. Heck, there probably wouldn't be so much desperation to chase Mario Kart's success so badly.
