NOT ACTUALLY A PIER

Music, opinions, football, shares far too much personal information.

Bristol City FC, The Fall, Felt, Tube stations, Factory Records.

Forever Breathes the Lonely Word
I really want to go back to Hull. I paid it a quick visit during that strange period in 2020 when we were in lockdown but also able to travel. The rules were very odd and, as we now know, not really being obeyed by the Government.

I’d like to go back and see the Bridge, probably for the last time.

The Top 5, for those who care (which, I imagine, is precisely none of you).

In a shocking piece of news, Spotify told me that my top artist for 2025 was The Fall.

I suspect it’ll also be The Fall in 2026, if I live that long.

Feels like the Universe was sending me an unambiguous message today.

Bought my parents a new kettle but they aren’t happy with it. Too complicated, apparently.

Looks perfectly normal to me but it’s been the kind of day where everything I do or say is wrong.

Here is my full list, if anybody’s interested. You’ll need to go back to my original posts if you want to know more about why I chose these particular songs.

Some very good songs in there!

My number 1 (1963 by New Order) is a stone cold classic.

If anybody is interested, attached is my Top 30.

I went through a few versions of this, so I think the attached is the final version, apologies if it isn’t!

My final list. The original plan/joke was to have 29 tracks by The Fall & then have something else as number 1. Probably Let Down by Radiohead.

Mani’s sad death changed that plan, so my top 30 was comprised of 29 tracks by The Fall/MES & 1 by the Stone Roses.

FOOTBALL POST - PLEASE IGNORE IF NOT INTERESTED.

Very good day to be a Bristol City supporter. An away win at Pompey and Rovers somehow manage to lose their 8th consecutive game, at home to a side reduced to 10 players for most of the match.

JFC I am in love (again).

Nicola Madill at The Globe in Cardiff, supporting Martin Stephenson and the Daintees.

Beautiful voice, beautiful songs.

Just lovely.,

I appear to be in Cardiff.

Cardiff! In Wales!

This is a lovely LP and you should all buy a copy. #FallFriday

Over on Twitter, I occasionally check my account and post some sarcastic tweets about football. I noticed today that this woman, who claims to be a single Mum from America, has liked about a dozen of my recent tweets about the current state of professional football in the West of England. How odd.

My message to the delusional Bristol Rovers fans on Radio Bristol right now, saying that everything’s fine and the management know what they are doing!

FOOTBALL POST.

Bristol Rovers suffer their 7th consecutive defeat. Useless club. Just pack it in and call in the liquidators, you useless bastards.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Anyway, that’s over now.

My #20songsbyyear ( there are actually 21 of them - my mistake!) and my #20songsbyyear near misses are attached, for those of you who may be interested.

They’ll make a good Spotify playlist if you can be bothered to create it.

Nobody looks at my BlueSky posts unless I use a hashtag such as #90sTop30 or #NewWaveNovember, so I’m probably wasting my time writing this.

If you have a spare £10, do yourselves a favour and head over to Bandcamp, look for Holly Carter & buy a copy of her CD, “Leave your mark”. It’s v good.

Been to a team-building day at Exeter rugby stadium today. Very nice lunch. 9/10. Would definitely eat there again.

Saw them play this in Bristol a few weeks ago. They are still a great live act!

Met Sweep (out of Sooty and Sweep) at the launderette. Interesting guy. Doesn’t say much but has serious charisma.

Does anybody really pay £34.99 for a blue vinyl copy of the Buckingham Nicks album from several decades ago?

That’s at least £10 more than I’m prepared to pay.

Look at West Acton Station. Isn’t it lovely?

The correct answer is yes, it’s lovely.
