NOT ACTUALLY A PIER

Music, opinions, football, shares far too much personal information.

Bristol City FC, The Fall, Felt, Tube stations, Factory Records.

La Belle Dame Sans Merci

Lotta Continua

Forever Breathes the Lonely Word
Number 2 on #jonesysjukebox is this lovely little song from Motörhead called Dead men tell no tales.

Opening track from the Bomber album, 1979/1980.

PLAY THIS FUCKING LOUD!

RIP Lemmy, Philthy and Eddie. You were all legends.

I’m going to start my own #musicchallenge hashtag, safe in the knowledge that the rest of the world will totally ignore it.

Just random songs that I like.

So, number 1 on #jonesysjukebox (nothing to do with Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols) it’s Primal Scream & Silent Spring, from the 1987 debut LP.

Kevin Rowland (of Dexys Midnight Runners)

Young Man

A brilliant song from his totally ignored 1988 solo LP, The Wanderer.

This is one of the best songs KR ever wrote, but he was ignored and derided when this was released so it sank without trace. Such a shame.

Next Tuesday, December 9th, is the 60th anniversary of A Charlie Brown Christmas.

I normally watch on Christmas or Christmas Eve, but I may be adjusting for this.

In case you missed it ...
Workers with a migration backgound recorded this powerful poem during the pandemic. They feared the UK and its politicians would soon forget how they helped the country survive. And they were right. Fickle politicians who clapped for them then now call them "strangers".

Bought my parents a new kettle but they aren’t happy with it. Too complicated, apparently.

Looks perfectly normal to me but it’s been the kind of day where everything I do or say is wrong.

Here is my full list, if anybody’s interested. You’ll need to go back to my original posts if you want to know more about why I chose these particular songs.

Some very good songs in there!

My number 1 (1963 by New Order) is a stone cold classic.

This is 30 of 30.
Alternatively - number 1!
New Order
1963
B side of True Faith, Factory Records, Fac 183, 1987.

A fantastic song which really should have been a top 10 single. Crazy how Factory & New Order didn’t realise how great this song was!

30 (or, alternatively, number 1)

Public Image Limited
Public Image
Virgin Records
1978

I was 12. This record, and the accompanying wrap-around newspaper sleeve, had a massive impact on me.

I was too young for punk but I was the right age for New Wave!

This is 29 of 30.

It’s Felt. More accurately, it’s Martin Duffy RIP.

A beautiful piano piece called Candles in a Church.

B side of the 12” single of Ballad of the Band, Creation Records, 1986.

Beautiful.
Magical.

My final list. The original plan/joke was to have 29 tracks by The Fall & then have something else as number 1. Probably Let Down by Radiohead.

Mani’s sad death changed that plan, so my top 30 was comprised of 29 tracks by The Fall/MES & 1 by the Stone Roses.

My final choice. My favourite song of the 90s.

You’ll be shocked to hear that it’s The Fall.

Paranoia Man in Cheap Shit Room

From the excellent 1993 album, The Infotainment Scan

I love the song and I have a very specific memory attached to it.

Thank you.

FOOTBALL POST - PLEASE IGNORE IF NOT INTERESTED.

Very good day to be a Bristol City supporter. An away win at Pompey and Rovers somehow manage to lose their 8th consecutive game, at home to a side reduced to 10 players for most of the match.
