Australia has an opportunity to get out of AUKUS. We should take it.

We ask the Albanese Government to prioritise Australia's interests and security, and to join the UK and the US Governments in undertaking an independent parliamentary inquiry into AUKUS.

Labor and the LNP demand that we have social cohesion in Australia, and then constantly manufacture fights about everything to ensure that they hit the news cycle and are seen to be 'relevant'
Apparently it's called 'leadership'
Would be good if a journo could ask them about that
But you know, it’d be nice if we could have rationally considered policy based on its merits rather than political gamesmanship.
Just once this year
Whether or not the #Coalition's concerns are legitimate, almost all are the result of their decision to push #Labor to move quickly. #Albanese has plunged the #Coalition back into rabble and chaos. #Ley's leadership position is as tenuous as ever. #Auspol

The Albo government's antisemitism bill is a rushed hatchet job. Nobody has proper time to consider it carefully enough, and it will have all sorts of unintended consequences if passed. It is the worst kind of law-making: moral panic induced, pandering to powerful lobby groups' demands.

In Albo's new antisemitism bill, the definition of "hate crime", which underpins the new regime to proscribe "hate groups" like the Nazis, specifically excludes "advocating genocide". That is, advocating genocide is treated as not being a racist hate crime. Now, why would that be?

House Speaker Mike Johnson apparently doesn’t understand how our justice system works. He said if Fed Chair Jerome Powell is innocent, “then he can prove that.” No, Mikey, he doesn’t need to prove he’s innocent. His accusers need to prove he’s guilty.

This should be more obvious to everyone, but we cannot let the people comfortable with the mass slaughter of children further shape our culture, our democracies, our future as a species. It's the path to a depraved fascistic hellhole.

Gotta say, the cancellation of Adelaide Writers' Week gives me some hope for Australia's ability to navigate this.

A great loss for the literary community, but writers/thinkers/audiences aren't going to stand for the bullying and pressure.

Unclear when the politicians are going to figure it out.
