“Wish it could be more. Retired teacher.”

We got this kind note in the mail from a donor earlier this year, and it serves as a reminder for us of what CSPI is working for. We're so very grateful for your support, no matter what you give. We're all in this fight together! Thank you ❤️

If you’re making cookies or cakes for the holidays, watch out: titanium dioxide, a food color additive that can potentially cause DNA damage, is in hundreds of Christmas treats. It's used to make food more white, so you can find it in a lot of icing products, like Betty Crocker Decorating Icing.

Food dyes in tortilla chips? We'll pass.

Synthetic food dyes like the Yellow 5, Blue 1, and Red 40 seen here can cause or exacerbate neurobehavioral problems in some children, according to a comprehensive report published in 2021 by California’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment.

Recently, the FDA invited 2 Congresspeople to an approval meeting for a bladder cancer drug – before rescinding the invites after pushback from within the agency.

“Their presence would create enormous pressure on FDA employees to approve a product,” said CSPI President @drpeterlurie.bsky.social.

The new guidelines around COVID-19 access have the public confused, but most people who want to get a vaccine can do so. Broad access is possible, in part, through what in health care is called “off-label use.”

What does this mean? Read more from @theconversation.com at the link in the thread.

Do you really need extra protein in your latte or coffee? Especially if it comes with spoonfuls of sugar? The new Starbucks Protein Cold Foam drinks have at least 5 teaspoons of added sugar - but you can do better.

The FDA has admitted what European regulators have known for more than 15 years: Synthetic food dyes pose real dangers to consumers.

Yet American regulators have yet to take regulatory action to protect kids from synthetic dyes widely prevalent in US foods. The question is: why?

So back in March, the Trump admin cancelled $1 billion in local food purchases for schools and food banks.

Now, the Trump admin is buying $30 million in produce for food banks, and says that this shows they're supporting farmers?

The math isn’t mathing.

Last week, the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act, legislation CSPI has long opposed, passed the Senate.

This is the exact opposite of what is needed to improve child health outcomes, and this bill is a clear handout to the dairy industry at the expense of our children’s health.

The 2025–2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans must stay grounded in science, not industry pressure! With more Americans than ever facing obesity and diabetes, we deserve clear, evidence-based nutrition guidance backed by science in our current world of misinformation.

Weakening saturated fat limits in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans would put children’s health at risk—especially in school meals. The DGAs should protect kids, not industry profits #UncompromisedDGA

Who should we trust: decades of scientific studies, or the food industry? Eating an excess of sodium & saturated fat can increase the risk of heart disease and stroke, but industry would like us and the government to think otherwise. The DGAs must be backed by science. We want an #UncompromisedDGA!

Check the ingredients this Halloween! Even though the FDA banned the cancer-causing synthetic dye Red 3 back in January, the classic candy corn made by Brach's still contains Red 3, according to the ingredients list on their website, along with other food dyes of concern (Yellow 5 and Yellow 6).

Did your last meal cause your food poisoning symptoms? Maybe...or maybe not. Let's break it down.

Food poisoning is just an upset stomach that will last a couple of days, right? Not quite.

Students are asking for more plant-based options at school — but school districts face barriers in meeting that demand. Reps. @velazquez.house.gov & @adams.house.gov’s Plant Powered School Meals Pilot Act would change that.
