We'll be keeping close eye on the release of the new Dietary Guidelines, so follow us for updates as soon as they're available! In the meantime, you can read our full article 👇
5 things we want to see in the 2025 Dietary Guidelines

5. Stick to pasteurized low and no-fat dairy

Whole milk has five times the saturated fat content compared to low-fat milk, and unpasteurized dairy increases the risk of foodborne illness. The USDA and HHS should maintain the previous DGA recommendation to avoid raw milk, especially for children.

4. Provide clear advice on alcohol consumption.

Two major scientific reviews and a 2025 Surgeon General Advisory found that even moderate drinking was linked to higher breast cancer risk, and heavy drinking linked to other harms. The DGAs should clearly state that less alcohol is better for heath.

3. Highlight plain drinking water as the primary beverage for people to consume (and limit sugary drinks).

Sugary drink consumption is associated with higher risk of obesity in childhood through early adulthood, and can be associated with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes in adults.

2. Include recommendations to prioritize plant-based proteins and reduce red and processed meat.

Evidence reviewed by the 2025 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC) consistently demonstrated the health benefits of increasing plant proteins while reducing red and processed meats.

1. Keep the recommended limits on added sugar, sodium, and saturated fat.

While Americans consume too much of all three, Trump admin officials like RFK, Jr. have publicly opposed limits on saturated fat. But the science is clear: saturated fat consumption increases heart disease risk.
