Pleased this new progress report on Mobilities & Crisis is out #OpenAccess. I suggest that mobility isn't just about movement but also navigating the temporalities of ongoing hardship, where crisis is part of the lived experience rather than an exceptional event. journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10....
Mobilities I: Crisis - Cristina Temenos, 2025
In this report on mobilities, I discuss research published between 2017-present, focussing on how multiple crises intersect with mobilities. I examine how recen...

Crisis between the Ordinary and Eventful: Housing, Material Conditions, and Everyday Urbanism

In many cities, crisis isn’t rupture—it’s everyday life.
Evictions, debt, precarity, housing struggles.
But also repair, care, solidarity.

Capping off 4 years of work in 2 hours is always a challenge, but I thoroughly enjoyed discussing my thesis with Paola Jirón and @natemillington.bsky.social today.

Many thanks to all those who made this research project possible - supervisors, interlocutors, and interviewees!

Proud supervisor alert! Congratulations Dr. @tvlaake.bsky.social who defended his thesis: Between processes and instances: comparing the intra-urban differentiation of cycling policy & infrastructure provision in Greater Manchester, Mexico City, and Toronto.

The news out of Manchester today fills me with profound sadness. I have no doubt that the city will pull together, it always does. Thinking of those senselessly murdered and their loved ones.

What happened today in Manchester is horrific, and my thoughts are with everyone marking Yom Kippur. There are going to be tough days ahead I suspect as we learn more about what happened, and I really hope the city can pull together through them

There have been hyped policies before about local funding, but unlike ‘levelling up’ this project could lead to actual change, says Morgan Jones

Agree the plan is good, but council ownership is not going to work where most councils have serious financial challenges.

Here in Birmingham, the council is selling off most of it's property portfolio.

“Nothing destroys political trust like money that comes and goes,” says Caitlin Prowle,

See also my comments on 'grant funding', a smaller but invidious version of the same problem. Designed to make potential cooperators fight like rats in a sack too.

There has been a lot of chat at #OASPA2025 about how, if we were starting the scholarly publishing system from scratch, we would build it differently. And that we have to work with the system as is, with all its flaws (my gloss). I agree to some extent - but I'm not sure this framing is helpful

Great piece on the politics of moving counter-hegemonic ideas into mainstream policy and practice. As this paper shows, there's not a huge amount of work bridging policy mobilities and the geographies of social movements, but really productive space for that work to be done.
