Without a conscience, I could have been Q.

Had I been able to conform, I’d have been a pastor.

Now I’m some kind of artsy-fartsy, paganish commie.
… and I thought to myself, “That’s a bummer. I liked that one!” 🙃

When the spent pulp in two giant cylindrical ovens preparing it to be made into feed-pellets got too roasty toasty and had to be dumped on the floor and dealt with there, there came this point where I saw my boss go out into the frozen maelstrom with short sleeves and no winter gear …

We need more journalists who don’t pretend the rising wave of right-wing inspired transphobia, racism, misogyny, predation, authoritarianism, homophobia and corruption is something they should shrug at and say “we can’t take sides”

On the other, a primarily American, primarily but not exclusively low-church Protestant movement over a century in the making, and a global network conditioned to be receptive thereto by international missions

One the one hand, there is a very specific, focused movement that is the latest iteration of the Reagan-era religious right, egged on by political operatives and propagandists and in concert with an international trend which has been advanced abroad within Catholic and Orthodox communities.

I grew up in and around it and would argue that it is genuinely a fusion of both. I know there is a liberal standard not to get into evaluating a religion or religion as a phenomenon critically, but I am/was an insider (Philippians 3:5), and I do not forebear. I cut, and I sear.
